"But you were otherwise correct. Do you think it appropriate for a student to decide when they want to leave a lesson?" He'd seen it happen once or twice, heard about it more often but could never fathom why even if they wanted to leave, they thought he would actually let them. Regardless of whatever they were feeling, it was mindblowing to think they just assumed things would work their way.

"And while we're at it, how necessary was it for you to back talk? What did you gain? What is your prize? You're a Slytherin, that lot's good for ambition and self preservation. Do you honestly think anything you did, fell in line with that?"

He expected it from Gryffindors.

...

.....And Hufflepuffs apparently. Ugh. Those Hufflepuffs.
He was right. But she just wanted to point that out. Moving on.

Natalie averted her eyes and considered his question. Was it appropriate to let a student decide when they wanted to leave class? Truthfully, Natalie believed it was. Especially if the student was of age, as she was. But she knew that disagreeing with him would only prolong her detention, and she didn't fancy hanging out with this dude all night.

The back talk, yeah. What did she gain? Some pride in herself, for sure. And possibly some respect from her classmates. Now SHE was refraining from rolling her eyes. "I'm a Slytherin for many reasons, but the stereotype doesn't define me." Just saying.

Now, onto his questions. Natalie sighed and lied through her teeth. "And no, I suppose it's not appropriate for a student to decide when they leave a lesson." There. Was he happy?
