"I'm not desperate," she blurted out without thinking about it. But thinking about it, she probably would have said the same thing. It was a lie, she was desperate - but she did not like the idea of Rafferty or anyone else in this school to think it was so. "You need not worry about my loyalties. I am loyal to whomever the current headmaster or headmistress is, but I agree that Julian is a great headmaster."

"Well!" she said, deciding that there was little else to say here. "I have items to attend to, as I am sure you have as well. I look forward to working with you. Good day, Mr. Rafferty Ainsworth." With that, she turned to leave.

And no, this time she did NOT offer him her hand!
