Fortunately, the Hufflepuff was having little trouble staying in front of himself, as he pressed down against his broom handle. He always started a bit slow, but this was proving that he was able to best himself with each pass, even if his banking was getting sloppier the faster he went.
Actually, he'd had this nightmare before; where he'd been chased by some other version of himself with his own Beater's bat. Heh, his brain could be loads of fun like that. Surprisingly, he hadn't seen that dream for what it had been... Though, he'd chalk that up to the lack of bat in his projection's hand. It couldn't be a vision if there were important aspects missing, right? Sure, he was being pursued, but it wasn't due to impending danger? Even if the pursuit was inspiring an adrenaline rush.
Of course, a few moments later, it wasn't just the shade!Aaron tailing him.
The was also a bludger.
...... !!!!!!!!!
Aaron stuttered on his broom, his hand itching for the grip on his bat... Was this how the other members of his team felt usually?... Exposed, without a way to protect themselves? Obviously, that's what he and Derf were for, but wow. Even as he all but plastered himself to the highly polished handle of his broom, the adrenaline was giving way to tendrils of dread. Yeah, he did not like being without his bat when there were bludgers in play. Maybe this was proof enough that he couldn't be anything other than a Beater, even if Seeking did look like loads of fun. He'd simply gotten too comfortable battling the violent balls, rather than dodging them.
... He was dodging them fairly well, of course. But that wasn't the point. His hand continued to tingle, missing the familiar weight of his bat. Especially after one whizzed past his head, slingshotting forward and quickly rebounding back as if thrown like a boomerang. Aaron evaded the ball in a maneuver Hassan had taught him, diving down a foot or so. It put him out of the way of the bludger, and allowed him to continue blazing a trail around the pitch.
He respected his non-bat teammates all the more for this. "Nice stuff, Aaron!" Bel hollered out, thoroughly impressed by his moves. And where had he learned that? He didn't even drop that much speed when he dodged, which was definitely impressive. Especially from a beater, and you know, beaters weren't primed to dodge things, more meet things head on. Quote:

Then he tucked himself tighter and leant forward to really speed it up... Whoa!.. This was possibly the fastest the mop-headed redhead had ever flown.. He was a blur!
He had been aware that Bel had called out to him to speed it up just before catching sight of the bludger that he had narrowly escaped. He swooped and dove and zigged and zagged, all at the right time, but his projection was still just in front of him. URGH! He totally didn't realize that he was flying and maneuvering at break-neck speed for himself, all while avoiding being struck by the belligerent ball. "On ya, Cal!" Bel shouted encouragement to her newest hopeful too, pleased to see he was quick on his tail twigs. It was super important to be able to focus but still manage to be aware of your surroundings like that!
As they finished up their laps and came hurtling back towards her, Bel grabbed one of the bats, and stood ready to thwack the approaching bludgers away herself. You know, so she could continue with the tryouts and instructions.
First one--- THWACK!!-- the vibration went through her arm, and then she swung the bat up in the backlift style that was common to cricket to hit the other -THWAAACK!!-- aaaand there it went. Grinning, Bel addressed the gathered 'puffs. "Great work on those laps and good stuff avoiding those bludgers! They'll be back though, so if you're trying out for beater, grab yourself a bat. Everyone else I want you to show me your passing and intercepting skills up the pitch and then back for the next twenty minutes. Don't bother trying to score any goals, that's not what this bit is about. Beaters, keep those bludgers off the scent! Chasers, be aware of the bludgers, but keep your focus on flying. You can pass to anyone, and you can intercept from anyone. Show me what you've got! Oh, and pop the projectors back in the trunk before you get airborne again. Lets get to it!" ooc: Tryouts will be over as soon as the thread is closed by Josefin. If you get a chance to post again, go ahead, but in case you don't, or in case I don't get to post again, I will edit this post to include an ic and ooc overview of how the rest of the tryouts went down just for your personal reference!
Post index: Introductions start laps against.... yourself! bludgers released!
Lets see your passing game! (this post)
