SPOILER!!: Madison! <3

Fortunately that didn't last too long, because she already knew this stuff and wanted to get to the practical part.

They had to push the power button. Well, that was easy and logical since the computers had been turned off.

Smiling, Madison pushed the button, watching as it highlighted blue. Okay, now the computer was turning on and she just needed to wait for everything to boot up. Too bad these computers were pretty old and thus a little slower, but it was okay; she understood that was how life could be sometimes and at least they HAD computers to use.

Soon enough Madison was greeted with the home screen. So this computer was using Windows. Interesting.

As she listened to Professor Stewart, she let her mouse hover over the different icons. She already knew about the recycling bin and what not, she was more curious to see what games were on the computer. Maybe she could find something fun to play at a later time... In the meantime, she found the icon for Chrome, and clicked it twice.

The screen froze, and Madison frowned, waiting for it to fix itself.

After waiting a few moments, the browser popped up on her screen. She smiled. Yep, her page had the google logo on it. Everything worked exactly as it should have.

That done, she waited for further instruction.

At the precise moment that Madison froze, Kay happened to look in her direction. Was something wrong? She edged towards the girl’s computer in time to see the screen bounce back to life, the browser appearing on the screen. “Let me know if it freezes again, Ms. Valentine.’’

SPOILER!!: Natalie! <3

Surely a detour would be fine. A lot of the students were being slow anyway. Natalie clicked on the start menu, which she was familiar with, and then searched for games. Games, games, games... Ah, there it was. A new menu dropped out, but... no sign of an asteroid game. Darn.

Clicking out of it, Natalie THEN decided to follow instructions and click on the "chrome" icon. A window popped up. Ah, googly, yes. She had heard of googly. Google? No, surely it was Googly. That's what her mum called it, anyway.

As it was, Professor Stewart had completely missed Natalie’s little detour...

SPOILER!!: Benji! <3

Are you seeing this?!)

And then... IT WAS TIME. Clicking! The Internet! Google? He didn't know what a search engine was, but he could make a good educated guess, he thought. Either way, he swirled the mouse in big loop-de-loops some more until it reached the circle with the House colors on it. (Had Google done that on purpose? Was it made by witches and wizards and just used by Muggles? He was too scared to ask the question out loud because it seemed like a stupid one, but he still wondered.) He double clicked the icon and waited a moment until a big white box appeared with colorful letters spelling out "Google" in the middle. Was this... THE WORLD WIDE WEB?

“Having fun, Mr. Park? Kay asked. She really meant it because he genuinely seemed to be enjoying himself as the mouse’s arrow danced about the screen.

She had a million things she'd love to search, but she didn't, and just waited for further instruction.

Kay gave a nod of approval as she strode by the baby Ravenclaw. Instructions were being complied with so far. More importantly, Natasha seemed to be having no issues.

SPOILER!!: Nathan! <3

He waited until the monitor screen displayed some 'icons' before he could use the mouse. Nathan watched the little 'arrow' pointer moved across the screen, quite fascinated that it seemed to move exactly where he wanted it to go. "Such an obedient little arrowhead, aren't you?"he muttered under his breath.

Right, time to click on the 'Chrome' or whatever it's called on the screen. The professor called this the goo-glish something search engine. Or was it Gar-gle? Gargoyles? Gore-girl? No, that's not it... Brilliant. He should have paid more attention to the lesson.

Nathan did a single left-click on the mouse but...nothing happen. He noticed he only highlighted the icon. Weird? Hmm... oh wait. He remembered the professor told them to click twice rapidly. So he did ....with a clickety-click.

Ah there you go...

Finally, he saw the browser page pop up.

No more questions? Kay was somewhat disappointed but allowed Nathan to continue the task at hand.

SPOILER!!: Stasya! <3

It was kind of disconcerting, but then also not because this wasn’t CoMC. Therefore she didn’t feel quite as bad about not knowing a lot, and at least she’d known what it was. Plus, she’d sensed the awkwardness from Lucas before the lesson had begun, and it had made her concerned that something was wrong. Even beyond the fact she’d gotten a practically coded message from Derf, to which she’d replied with a nod before everything else had happened and the lesson had begun. Meaning, she’d tried to stay quiet as answers had been called out around her. Internet was a word she’d heard of, although all the other terms were kind of new and therefore intriguing.

Part of her wondered if they could use the internet to help with more Animagus research, narrowing things down before they actually tried to accomplish the task. Except, she wasn’t really sure leaving a trail behind counted as secret and she still felt like their little group was fairly secret. Entirely Gryffindor, at least, which helped with hopefully keeping it away from the notice of staff members she’d rather not deal with more than she had to. She had enough paranoia already about the prefect notebooks.

The activity, at least, seemed pretty easy. Finding the button they’d been told about hadn’t been too hard, yet she’d still found herself idly chewing her lower lip as she waited for the computer to boot up. It seemed like it was taking an awfully long time, which meant she’d started wondering if there was magic sabotage going on somehow. It wasn’t secret that the headmaster and the Divination professor didn’t get along with Professor Stewart, and playing on computers didn’t really fit with the rest of their agenda. Not as far as she could figure out, although she hadn’t really figured out what their goal was aside from making Hogwarts as unlikable as possible.

The explanation of the next step had derailed her tangent, though. Mouses? There were mouses? She’d begun looking for cute little furry creatures, moment before she realized they weren’t talking about the creatures. The little plastic thing didn’t even look like a mouse, but she still poked it with a finger before watching the little arrow zoom around the picture on the monitor before she let it land on the colorful circle and double clicked on it with the not-a-real-mouse. Debate over the name of computer parts nonetheless, she blinked at the white screen that appeared with the word Google splashed across it. So far she was following along fairly well?

She could be imagining it but Stasya did look somewhat distracted. At first, Kay thought it had something to do with the instructions. A closer look told her that the Gryffindor had followed those to the letter. “Is something bothering you, Ms. Dalgaard- Volkova?’’

He ducked further behind his monitor to stifle a yawn just as the screen decided to finally come to life. And now for the next bit.

He knew how to do basic computer things because, with the help of his brother, he’d used the muggle machine to search for and order rare, limited edition issues of some of his favourite graphic novels. So that meant he was basically an expert now. Max double clicked on the icon and watched as the next page popped on up.

Easy peasy.

All caught up? Despite his tiredness, Kay was pleased to see that Max was up to date. She was still keeping an eye on him as much as she could lest he dozed off.

SPOILER!!: Jessa! <3

For being a muggle invention, the internet wasn’t pretty useful and insightful. Didn’t need to know the history of the computer to know how to turn it on.

Spaced as she was, Jessa reached over to press the button when the Professor instructed them to do so. Had she not known what the button did, she’d have pressed it ages ago to find out. As this was one of the more familiar pieces of muggle technology, her curiosity, like her attention span had gone for a walk.

Things were happening on her screen but don’t ask her what because her attention, once again, was through the window.

Every now and then, the woman’s voice would travel through her ears and her brain picked bits and pieces to interpret and discard. It didn’t escape her notice that the Professor had begun a statement instructing them in regards to if things weren’t working right for them but got side tracked and never finished.

Huh.

The mention of school houses momentarily caught her attention. That was when she noticed that her screen looked nothing like what the woman was describing. There was no home screen, no button with a lot of colours, nothing to click that would take her to the browser—and it wasn’t just her ignorance. No. She didn’t have problems getting on the internet at her mum’s.

Um.

What?

Jessa straightened in her seat, watching line by line of white text fly across the page and disappear to Merlin knew where atop of background of blue. This was.....but the Professor never told them what to do if....she......was.....just gonna ....sit here.....and.....yeah.......

As she was giving explanations to the class, occasionally Kay would glance over to Jessa. It seemed as though the seventh year was not listening to everything being said, this was the reason she had decided to make a check on Jessa. Much to the woman’s annoyance, she saw that the system was malfunctioning. “Ms. Camridge? Try holding down the power button, the one we used earlier, to shut the computer off and then repeat to turn back on. If it doesn’t work, please select another system to use.’’ The annoyance and wariness were kept out of her voice. It wasn’t fair that the kiddos had to suffer because she, Kay, was not granted funds to upgrade the Room.

Also, the whole idea of storing deleted things was just funny, wasn't it? Like keeping hold of your trash. Though she guessed the visual still held up because you did empty your rubbish bin once it was full and all that.

Anyway, she zoomed through, double clicking on the chrome icon and bringing up the browser window. Now she was hoping they'd be able to search for anything they wanted! That thought perked Bel up a bit.

This was another student all caught up so far. Kay flashed the Hufflepuff Captain a thumbs up.

SPOILER!!: Derf! <3

He was sorta little too caught up on this detail - because trash and recycle were not exactly synonymous as far as he knew...there WERE some fine differences - and had only been half paying attention to the next set of instructions when he began hearing the gentle clicking noises of his classmates as they began proceeding.

Oh. What? Was he supposed to open up the tra--- recycle bin?

Knowing all about this clicking business, Derf set to doing just that...only his was completely empty and thus rather disappointing. Glancing around the classroom quickly provided the sixth year with a visual cue that he was NOT doing the right thing and thus set to fixing that by following his monkey see monkey do technique once again. Click on the house color icon. Got it. Double clicking once produced no results - well, there was this sorts swirly looking thing that spun a bit near the arrow - so Derf gave this clicking business another go. Still nothing.

Again? Again.

Derf soon lost track of how much clicking he was doing and it was getting lost in all the other clicking around him...but eventually something DID happen. And several times over. While the white screen with this Goober...whatever logo appeared, it all turned white once again and then the logo appeared. Once again, before he could do anything else, the process repeated. And again. And again. Blinking as the process continued a few more times, Derf was quick to note that the top bit of this, er, window thingy was beginning to accumulate more little grey looking boxes. No...they weren't boxes...but there were a bunch of them popping up and becoming more and more narrow with each addition and each with that little white circle and Hogwarts house color 'G' on each.

Eventually...this stopped...and he began to curiously count how many 'G's were present. 1....2....3........................36.

Kay’s blue eyes widened when she saw the amount of pages that had popped up on Derf’s system. “One will do, Mr. Ashburry-Hawthorne. Not that I’m blaming you, I know you wouldn’t intentionally open that many.’’ Malfunctions were to be blamed.

If not I got quite a bit that I wrote down." she said showing him her nice and neat notes she took.

Um... yeah now they were starting up the computer, she cpuld do that. Looking around for the silver button on the screen she looked up and down on the monitor feeling around it for a button. Hm... where was it on this monitor? Looking around some more she seen it and laughed alittle at herself, if it was a snake it would've bit her. Pushing the button she waited for the computer to boot up as thr screen went blue she smiled.

Sucess!

Well... that was easy enough, after she found the button that is.
[QUOTE=Granger Danger;12353673]Stella was use to taking notes, that was basically what she did in her muggle school ALOT! Not meaning to brag, but she was quite a good note taker.

Yeah...that wasn't something that someone should brag about, a lot of people hated taking notes.

Stella giggled at his reply. "I been taking alot of notes at my muggle school, so I guess I'm quite experienced." she said shrugging as if it wasn't no big deal. Stella nodded. " Sure, that sounds good, you can borrow my notes anytime. " she said smiling softly at him.

Um... rught now, to click on the icon she was talking about, she knew which one it was without a shadow of a doubt she used computers alot in her muggle school. Taking more notes she looked at the screen finding the Google Chrome icon.

click click!

Ok... she doubled click why wasn't it working or opening up? She bit her lip thinkking she did something wrong that made the computer act up. Although she decided to wait for a bit and see if was going to come up. After waiting a few minutes the window popped up

sucess!

She smiles happily at herself and started taking more notes down. So...do they wait to see what they were searching or do they start searching the web? As for now shenjust sat there abd waited.[/QUOTE

Instructions were completed with Stella. And what was this? She was offering her notes to little Lucas? “Three points to Gryffindor for your offer, Ms. Starson.’’

SPOILER!!: Lil Lucas! <3

Lucas glanced down at her notes, which were neat and nice to look at and understandable, and then to his own notes, which looked like it had gone fighting and seriously lost and these were the remains.

Yeah.

"How..... how did you......" he spluttered, pointing at her notes as if that would explain what it was he was trying to say. He shook his head and, instead, whispered, "I have..... some? It just.... looks like badly written code. But thanks, Stella. We could exchange notes later?" You know, if he managed to read any of this.

And then the Professor was speaking again which, yes, meant more note-taking. His hand was going to fall off at the end of this! Frowning slightly, he started drawing the desktop and the icons - which turned out to look just as bad as his notes were but that was okay. He even drew the logos that she was talking about, especially the one for the internet that they were concentrating on. The one that had the HOUSE COLOURS.

Yeah. THAT was getting underlined. House colours and Google Chrome. He was almost itching to ask someone if there was a connection there but his own need to not draw attention to himself kept him quiet.

Anyways. She said to click twice on the icon? Click click!

There was a pause - and he almost thought that something was wrong with his computer because nothing was happening - when the window popped up. And there was the icon. In house colours.

Yeah...... he was going to give that note another underline.

So can they start searching now?

“Not bad note taking, Mr. Dakest. Give yourself some credit,’’ the adult said kindly. And yes, he too had done well with the instructions.

SPOILER!!: Józef! <3

So he clicked TWICE again. First click. PAUSE. Second click.

HE didn't realise that his clicks were supposed to be pretty close together, and due to his general ignorance he just assumed the muggle machines might appreciate a little slowness. But he was FRUSTRATED, and looking around at the computers of the students around him made him MORE frustrated as most of them had successfully opened the Gooooooogle thing.

Or whatever it was. So, of course, impatient little Józef clicked super rapidly about a BILLION times. And it had proved somewhat of a success - the Chrome page had opened, after all, but about 23456789 copies of it had opened in quick succession.

No, he wasn't exaggerating. Much.

"ERRRRRRRRRRR."

What was all that clicking about? By the time Kay had located the source, Józef seemed to have a trillion Chrome pages open. Another case of a frozen system? “One please, Mr. Kowalski. I’m sorry if the computer froze.’’

SPOILER!!: Chloe! <3

And it was obvious that some people understood the directions and some were just hoping for the best. Chloe was good at hoping for the best, so she placed her hand over the mouse and practiced pointing and clicking. Rooooll and click. Rooooll and click. Interesting, she supposed but not enough to make anything happen on the screen. She had to roll and point and click one of those little buttons, right?

So she clicked on all of them. All the little buttons. Click. Click. Click click clickclickclick.

Kay grinned as she watched Chloe’s antics. “Experimenting there, Ms. Kettleburn? Or do you need some help?’'

“Now that we’ve completed the basic aspect of accessing the search engine, I would like for you to click into that rectangular box. Simply use the mouse to guide the arrow to the box; the arrow will change into what looks like a capital or uppercase I. Once that happens, click the box and type a topic, object, name or anything sensible of your choosing into it.’’

Kay gave them a few minutes to allow them to do this or ask questions while she continued to walk among the rows.

“Once that’s done, you can either tap the ‘enter’ key on the keyboard or click on ‘Google Search’ on the screen. Should you click on ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ you’ll be taken to a particular page relating to your search. Go ahead, everyone!’’

OOC: Mini activity is completed after this set of instructions, folks! Thanks for playing thus far, yal are doing fantastic. Catch up for the activity will be allowed until tomorrow evening. In the meanwhile, let the kiddos have fun with Google searching. Just make sure they search for SS appropriate topics
