She went back and forth, in mental circles over the last few weeks back and the sudden changes she had not expected but most certainly should have given Hogwarts’ track record and penchant for the dramatic.
The new headmaster weighed heavy on her mind, and though she never felt any great loyalty to Hawthorne Julie could not get the defeated look on the woman’s face out of her mind. The ministry has sought to change Hogwarts for the better, but it seemed... fundamentally the same.
Maybe it was a ploy to get the student body to feel sorry for Hawthorne in her absence only to bring her back at the end of the year. It would be quite the show, she mused as she settled in the middle of the bridge, her arms resting on the wooden railing and bright eyes searching the horizon. She was looking at nothing at all as the clouds rolled by and the water of the lake (which she mostly ignored) gleamed in the sun. Quietly, Julie began to hum. A muggle pop song she had heard over the summer the Slytherin would not easily be rid of. He had gone to bed feeling just fine. Almost unnaturally fine given what had just transpired the night before and he had attacked the morning's S.O.R.E with such focused intensity that he had churned out his faster five laps to date - one of the first if not THE first to finish that morning. It was almost as if to prove a point, maybe. That he hadn't been broken. Though, on the flip side, one could also argue that he was falling in line by performing the task with such diligence. He reckoned it was two sides to the same coin and just decided to leave it at that, not wanting to overthink nor spiral on account of the new headmaster and his Divination lackey.
He had never been particularly attached to his badge, but walking around without it pinned to his robes now somehow made him feel surprisingly naked. It wasn't about status for him or to be recognized and acknowledged by his peers as some chosen one, that limelight had never particularly appealed to him, but it was something far more deep seeded than that...and he wasn't sure he could properly explain the feeling to anyone.
So it was, with his hands shoved in his trouser pockets, that he began making his way around the grounds just for a bit of fresh air. It helped him think, you know? He eventually found himself strolling along the wooden bridge, his ears bringing him to a stop nearby the source of the gentle humming.
"Maybe I shoulda brought my guitar," he chuckled lightly when he came to a proper stop behind her.
