Hogwarts RPG Name: Bettie Monroe Slytherin First Year | Our gal Sherlock SPOILER!!: question 2 Quote:

Those who'd followed that rule were given the privilege of sitting for what was likely going to be a long hour for many.
"Pyromancy has long been accepted as one of the first, if not the first form of divination. As some of you mentioned, it was a means of communicating with the gods of that time and aided with appeasing them. If they were angry that message could be deciphered in the flames and sacrifices could be offered. If they were pleased, it signaled a period of prosperity. Greek was one civilization in particular that delved into the practice however there have been other instances throughout history in which pyromancy has made its appearance."
Were they taking notes? Did they need to? This should really be revision for most. "Fiction has also seen it fit to portray this art, not always as accurately but muggle fiction in particular has been known to be ignorant toward the real workings of magic. Tales of witches dancing around fires. Great heroes using flames to decipher their victories in battle." They got the idea.
"It can be one of the trickier forms of divination, as a few others of you have mentioned, namely for the fact it is dependent on what the reader sees in the flames. Smoke reading, for instance, is one of the less arbitrary forms as it has very clear signs. Thick, dark smoke is known to be a bad omen. The average person can tell when the smoke they are looking at is thick and dark versus smoke that is clear and travels straight upward--a good omen. Something like seeing images in the flames would more likely bring on the issue of different perspectives. Two different individuals could look at the same fire and see different things."
Still following?
"Moving on!" He said firmly, getting the attention of anyone who may have spaced during that part of the discussion. "What do you know about a typical pyromancy session? Practices? Things to be avoided? Anything you might find strange. The symbols. Methods." Those who'd been silent before had used up that get out of jail free card.
OOC: Okay, question 2 is up! Basically, anything your character might know about the going ons of a regular fire reading session. Maybe something about the smoke or the prep or just about anything while in the middle of that reading. Doesn't have to be right, all answers welcome! I'll move the class again in 24 ish hrs As Bettie listened to the professor and took notes she remembered she did know something about pyromancy so Bettie raised her hand. "I think it would be under a practice, this is burning of herbs, as for method a candle, fireplace and could you use a bluebell flame has well? I would say things to avoid would be negative thought and burning of certain herb because some are poisonous and maybe the same for wood."
