I don't expect you'd be throwing salt into the fire to read the smoke. Transfiguration has several sub-branches and charms has a second branch known as dark charms. Would you consider either to be inconsistent?"

Pause. "But more importantly, who gave you permission to sit?" He questioned, taking just one step closer to the boy after seeing him shift on the log. Hadn't he learned his lesson from the others?

"You will drop and give me 25 push ups then remain standing for the rest of the lesson." Honestly.

Calvin waited until the last of them had finished rattling off their responses. Some.....stronger than others. Some....more silent than others but if he spent the night nitpicking at everything they would never get anywhere. "You may be seated, those of you who were diligent enough to remain standing up until this point, that is." Those who'd followed that rule were given the privilege of sitting for what was likely going to be a long hour for many.

"Pyromancy has long been accepted as one of the first, if not the first form of divination. As some of you mentioned, it was a means of communicating with the gods of that time and aided with appeasing them. If they were angry that message could be deciphered in the flames and sacrifices could be offered. If they were pleased, it signaled a period of prosperity. Greek was one civilization in particular that delved into the practice however there have been other instances throughout history in which pyromancy has made its appearance."

Were they taking notes? Did they need to? This should really be revision for most. "Fiction has also seen it fit to portray this art, not always as accurately but muggle fiction in particular has been known to be ignorant toward the real workings of magic. Tales of witches dancing around fires. Great heroes using flames to decipher their victories in battle." They got the idea.

"It can be one of the trickier forms of divination, as a few others of you have mentioned, namely for the fact it is dependent on what the reader sees in the flames. Smoke reading, for instance, is one of the less arbitrary forms as it has very clear signs. Thick, dark smoke is known to be a bad omen. The average person can tell when the smoke they are looking at is thick and dark versus smoke that is clear and travels straight upward--a good omen. Something like seeing images in the flames would more likely bring on the issue of different perspectives. Two different individuals could look at the same fire and see different things."

Still following?

"Moving on!" He said firmly, getting the attention of anyone who may have spaced during that part of the discussion. "What do you know about a typical pyromancy session? Practices? Things to be avoided? Anything you might find strange. The symbols. Methods." Those who'd been silent before had used up that get out of jail free card.

OOC: Okay, question 2 is up! Basically, anything your character might know about the going ons of a regular fire reading session. Maybe something about the smoke or the prep or just about anything while in the middle of that reading. Doesn't have to be right, all answers welcome! I'll move the class again in 24 ish hrs

Errr.

Oops.

Lucas just hadn't been paying attention--he hadn't meant any harm! He wouldn't have been disobeying on PURPOSE or anything--but as soon as the professor tore his answer apart--rightly so, Lucas supposed, since he knew almost nothing about Divination--he simply nodded and did the 25 pushups. With ease, mind you. He wasn't not in shape. Thank you, Baylen Brown, for getting this kid into better shape last term.

As soon as he finished, a little breathless and his arms feeling tingly, he stood up and crossed his arms. He didn't really feel like inputting again, not when what he said would be treated like that. He scuffled his shoe in the dirt a bit and bit his lip. Even if thought FIRE SAFETY WAS A GOOD THING TO MENTION because...some people just should NOT be allowed to be near or use fire ever. Just too dangerous for some folks. He kinda' hoped they'd get to do some pyromancy though because it seemed cool and fun and FIRE duh.

Also, why was Faith so smart? Lucas shot her an encouraging smile as she answered because he wanted her to feel nice about her answer even if Professor Grumpy-face might not do so.
