If possible, Emmalyn’s next words made her light up like a thousand suns. “Of course. I meant it all.’’ Just the thought of Emmalyn out there working nonstop to get herself along broke Kay’s heart. She waved a hand airily. “I’d rather you made your presence known. You can still go to camp and do other fun things with your friends.’’ There’s no way she’d forbid the Hufflepuff from doing any of those things. After all, her aim was to make her life easier and happier.
Still beaming, she finished off her tea just as Emmalyn got to her feet and came closer. A hug. It was what Emmalyn wanted to give her; she could tell for she had seen this stance from students before who were grateful for their assistance.
“It’s alright,’’ she said, getting to her feet as well. “A hug would be nice indeed.’’
Because sometimes that’s all a kiddo needed whether it be for reassurance or to be reminded that someone really did care for them.
Upon hearing the words, Emmalyn embraced Professor Stewart in the biggest hug she had ever given. Her fears over where she would be or how she would manage her school supplies were gone. She’d have a place to stay, and with someone that wanted her. It was all a bit too much to take in.
After what felt like not long enough, but was probably a bit too long, she stepped back and gave Professor Stewart a thankful smile. She was almost bouncy with joy and she had to go and tell her friends Maddie and Daisy that she was going to have a place to stay and be able to keep attending Hogwarts.
“Thank you again, really.” She headed back over to the chair to pick up her bag.
“I better get back to the Hufflepuff common room and do some studying. You never know when all those spells will come in handy.” She gave her one last big smile, thinking about what it would be like to have a home to stay at again.
She turned to leave with far more skip in her step than when she arrived. Her visit with the professor had done more for her than the woman could have ever known. It also brought out the fierce loyalty in her. Professor Stewart would have from that moment on a lifelong supporter with Emmalyn always having her back.
