She took another sip of tea before continuing "I can't get by just taking Muggle Studies and Flying, can I?" She gave Professor Stewart a little smile. "I am working on my spells with Daisy Swan. She's been a big help, especially with proper incantation. Having spent most of my life in the States, I think my accent is causing some troubles for me." She knew she couldn't blame all of her troubles on the way she pronounced words, but it could account for some of them. "I'm also working on a few of my long term assignments with Derf. He's one of the Hufflepuff prefects." Obviously the professor knew who the prefects were, but it made her feel special to say that she was teaming up with one.
She got quiet a moment and took another sip of warm tea. "So, you really had trouble in some of your classes too?" It comforted her to know that someone as smart as Professor Stewart used a study buddy. "I think the hardest part is seeing how well some of the first years are doing. It's hard enough keeping up with the second years, but to have the first years mastering spells on the first try...it's just hard." "Flying almost always clears one's head, I'd like to think. It's a great way to take away stress. I hope it works for you.'' Because it does for her. Kay too took a sip of tea. "Unfortunately not. How much simpler that would have been even though it sounds like that would be a way to run from your problem. You are not to type to do that.'' Don't ask her how she knew Lyn was that type. She just knew and had confidence in the Hufflepuff.
Kay's face lit up with a smile. "And I'm sure you're making progress with their help.'' However, the mention of accents did give her more to think about. She rested her elbows on the desk before resting her chin upon the backs of her hands. "Your adjustment to the British accent certainly will take a little while. The important thing is that you continue interacting with everyone around you. I do like your American accent, by the way.''
The woman nodded, quite unashamed to admit her struggles during her school life. "Oh, yes. If I weren't for the support of my Professors and friends, I would have had a tougher time.'' She really was sad to hear of these struggles. "I know it can be difficult,'' she said gently. "Do you think there is anything in particular I can help with?'' |
