Eyes remained fixed upon her as she listened to the plight. Kay's heart went out to Lyn. She knew what it was like to feel crushed like that, to not feel like you were good enough. She waited until Lyn was finished before speaking.
"Lyn, everyone learns at their own pace and certainly no one understands everything on their first try. I know because I speak from experience. Even though I came from half-blood family, there was much to learn so I can only imagine just how overwhelmed it must be for you as a muggle born.'' She smiled slowly. "My lessons are certainly where you excel in and I have no doubt you will excel at the remaining.'' There were a few solutions that could be offered. "I had study buddies while at Hogwarts. They motivated me. Professor Vance was one of them. Her strength was Divination while it was one of the worst subjects for me but with her help, I was able to secure satisfactory OWL and NEWT grades.'' Similarly, Ansley Finch had helped her with History of Magic, Victor Sokolov had helped with Ancient Runes, Cami with Transfiguration. "Have you tried this method?''
Sipping her tea had helped calm her mind and body. She hadn't realized what a giant ball of stress she had become. Being with Professor Stewart helped her refocus on reality and get out of the crazy parts of her head.
"I really like your classes. I also like flying. Flying feels right." She took another sip of tea before continuing
"I can't get by just taking Muggle Studies and Flying, can I?" She gave Professor Stewart a little smile.
"I am working on my spells with Daisy Swan. She's been a big help, especially with proper incantation. Having spent most of my life in the States, I think my accent is causing some troubles for me." She knew she couldn't blame all of her troubles on the way she pronounced words, but it could account for some of them.
"I'm also working on a few of my long term assignments with Derf. He's one of the Hufflepuff prefects." Obviously the professor knew who the prefects were, but it made her feel special to say that she was teaming up with one.
She got quiet a moment and took another sip of warm tea.
"So, you really had trouble in some of your classes too?" It comforted her to know that someone as smart as Professor Stewart used a study buddy.
"I think the hardest part is seeing how well some of the first years are doing. It's hard enough keeping up with the second years, but to have the first years mastering spells on the first try...it's just hard."
