Crazy eyed, full of panic Emmalyn took back over. "Okay. Thank you. Yes, more comfortable." Her fingers went back to twirling her hair. "I'm failing Hogwarts. Like, all of it." Her voice trembled "Most of the first years are preforming spells that I haven't even attempted because I can't seem to do the easy ones." She unconsciously felt for her wand. "My potions all turn out wrong, and I can't tell a Isa rune from a Eihwaz." She took a deep breath and continued "I keep studying and studying, but I don't seem to be getting any better. At least not enough to keep up with the rest of the class. I don't know what to do."

Her eyes locked on Professor Stewart, hoping beyond hope that she would have an answer for her, even though she had no idea what that answer could be. Had they made a mistake? Should she not even be a Hogwarts? Maybe she was a squib? No, that would have meant her parents were magical, and they were only Muggles. Maybe there really was something wrong with her magically. She had been one of the students, chanting in the street last spring. Even though she couldn't remember how she got there or what was said, she did remember suddenly being aware and all of the students and professors shouting to get to a port key. She had so easily been taken control of.

Kay rose from her chair to prepare two cups of sweet tea for herself and Lyn. "Here you are,'' she said, setting down the steaming mug before the girl. Now she reclaimed her seat, hands clasping her own much. She was now more than fully prepared to listen to all that Lyn had to say.

Eyes remained fixed upon her as she listened to the plight. Kay's heart went out to Lyn. She knew what it was like to feel crushed like that, to not feel like you were good enough. She waited until Lyn was finished before speaking.

"Lyn, everyone learns at their own pace and certainly no one understands everything on their first try. I know because I speak from experience. Even though I came from half-blood family, there was much to learn so I can only imagine just how overwhelmed it must be for you as a muggle born.'' She smiled slowly. "My lessons are certainly where you excel in and I have no doubt you will excel at the remaining.'' There were a few solutions that could be offered. "I had study buddies while at Hogwarts. They motivated me. Professor Vance was one of them. Her strength was Divination while it was one of the worst subjects for me but with her help, I was able to secure satisfactory OWL and NEWT grades.'' Similarly, Ansley Finch had helped her with History of Magic, Victor Sokolov had helped with Ancient Runes, Cami with Transfiguration. "Have you tried this method?''
