"Hey Professor," She said as she grabbed a pair of gloves and offered a smile. This lesson would be interesting.
It wasn't long before the first student arrived, complete with the kind of look he half-expected to get because of the setup of the room. He might've been used to it by now, what with the number of odd setups he'd had over the years, but it didn't make it any less amusing.
Although, he was quite proud that she hadn't decided to let her curiosity get the better of her and take a peek at what was on the hospital bed. "Hey, Miss Botros," he said, shooting her a dimpled!smile. Did she have an idea what was the topic for today's lesson? Hm? Text Cut: Emmalyn Quote:

Not surprisingly, the view upon entering the classroom was out of the ordinary. Hospital beds, mats, and rubber gloves were just a few of the things sending up red flags in her mind. With a nervous sigh, she grabbed her gloves and headed towards the mats around the covered beds. She didn't even have it in her to try and guess what was hidden under the black fabric. "Good morning, Professor Hirsch." She greeted with the best smile she could muster under the circumstances.
Hirsch had to admit: the scene might've been unsettling for some of the students. The hospital bed in particular gave off a bad sign, a sign of the sick and/or the dead, especially when mixed with Defence. But it was just one of those topics, unfortunately.
However, when the next student started to walk in, he couldn't help but wonder if this lesson needed an age limit to it. Gruesome probably wasn't for everyone but defence certainly was, which was the current dilemma.
In the meantime, he shot the Hufflepuff a smile in return and said, "Good morning, Miss Walsh." Maybe he needed to keep an extra eye out. Text Cut: Lydia Quote:

Lydia collected a pair of gloves as she was instructed and nodded to the professor. "Good morning, Professor Hirsch," she said, before plopping down onto the mat near the beds.
Here was a slightly more amusing reaction to the setup of the room, simply because of the dramatics of it. And if Hirsch currently wasn't trying to figure out whether age limits were needed for this lesson, he would've been trying hard to contain his amusement.
As it were, he did manage a smile at the young Slytherin before saying, "Morning, Miss Beckett."
And no, she wasn't in the wrong place. Text Cut: Maddie Quote:

Spotting the notice on the board, she grabbed a pair of rubber gloves then headed to claim a mat. She didn't claim anything too close to the beds, because she had no idea who or what was underneath those black cloths. One just does not wander on up to a bed with an unknown occupant in the middle of Defense class.
Ahem. "Hello, Professor!" she said, her gaze traveling back and forth between the beds and the man in the front of the room.
And here was someone who was unperturbed by the setup of the room, which made the Defence professor wonder if a normal classroom setup would've been the most surprising of them all, coming from him. But then again, where was the fun in that? What about the activity?
The smile on his face turned into a slightly amused one as he watched the young Hufflepuff looking between him and the hospital bed as if he was the culprit behind whatever was underneath the black cloths. "Hello, Miss Kemp." Was he going to give an explanation?
Nope. Text Cut: Daisy Quote:

Instead, he turned his attention towards the next student to walk in, the smile still staying on his face. "Good morning, Miss Swann." There was no need to ruin the surprise, was there? No. They wouldn't have to wait long to find out, anyways.
Besides, it was a lot of fun seeing these reactions. Text Cut: Stasya Quote:

Minus a biological factor, of course. But she’d looked at him that way ever since she’d first set foot in Hogwarts and he knew just as much about what was going on with her family as her friends did. Well, and probably the headmistress given that Runes lesson. But the DADA professor knew all the details.
Either way, it was an optimistic blonde fifteen-year-old who had headed up to the DADA classroom before lunch. An optimistic but also slightly distracted blonde fifteen-year-old, since February meant Valentine’s Day and that meant she had an excuse to bake. Even if she generally didn’t need an excuse, an excuse was welcome…
The first thing about the classroom as she’d arrived that piqued her curiosity was the brightness of the room. That wasn’t normal for DADA, at all, and she’d blinked as she walked inside to see hospital beds occupied by who knew what under black shrouds. The mystery was sort of DADA, if not Hogwarts in general. It was expected, anyway, just as the sight of the professor leaning casually at the front of the room was. “Good morning, Professor Hirsch!,” she said brightly, giving him a smile as she retrieved a pair of gloves from the desk he was leaning against. Granted, she didn’t know what he knew. Namely, if the headmistress discussed her Runes assignment with him, or more likely probably she’d have discussed it with Professor Marchand. But either way, she wasn’t sure. Therefore, there wasn’t any reason to worry him.
Plus, she chose a seat closest to one of the beds. Maybe that way she’d be able to find out what to expect first.
...... Ah!
While he was delighted to see the young Gryffindor in his lesson - and would've been very worried if she didn't turn up for some reason - there were also a few things he knew that made him worry about her and keep a close eye on her. She was the daughter of one of his oldest friends, after all, and he knew he couldn't protect her against everything - that would be impossible - but he did like to try.
Though, currently, the smile on her face was enough to water down any of the other things he'd heard recently. "Morning, Stasya," he said, shooting her a particularly wide, dimpled!smile. Text Cut: Ronan Quote:

'Cause, just like the smell of the corpse flower being a part of the potion from the Potions/Herbology lesson, this was pretty obvious.
Instead, he retrieved a pair of the rubber gloves with a "Hey, Professor Hirsch" and chose a mat to sit on. Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, he was feeling much better, thanks.
Someone who wasn't even surprised by the setup of the room? Maybe that's something he should've expected, given the number of times he'd magicked the room to look anything but what it normally looks like. Again, maybe he should've kept the room looking like your average classroom. Given the students a real element of surprise by how normal it looked...
.... Nah! "Hey, Mr Carter." Smile. Text Cut: Vivi Quote:

Plus, other things happened too, and the Head Girl found herself no longer crying about her loss. She was okay, she knew it. She will be even more okay.
But when the Head Girl had finally entered the classroom, she almost didn't want to be there. The first thing her eyes were able to register were the hospital beds, and honestly, they were the last things she wanted to deal with today. She bit on the insides of her cheeks to stop herself. She did not need a reminder of her loss—a salt in the wound.
Foregoing her usual song addition to her DADA lesson soundtrack, Vivian finally looked at Professor Hirsch and gave him an acknowledging nod. "Good morning, Professor," the blond greeted him before moving to get herself a pair of gloves and sitting beside Junia, who happened to be the only one present that she could stay close to, and she was her dorm mate. "Hi." Vivian didn't want to be here, yeah, but she was strong.
It was pretty customary to get a song from the Head Girl, something that was linked to the topic of today's lesson or the setup of the room. It was something that had been going on since the girl was a first year, and looking much livelier than she currently did. So when she didn't provide a soundtrack to the lesson, and didn't so much as smile, the man frowned slightly. This wasn't a cause for concern, was it? "Morning, Miss Fairfield," he said, giving her a small smile. Green eyes found Junia momentarily and he gave her a look as if to say to look after her. Text Cut: Rylee Quote:

The hospital beds in the center of the classroom was something that couldn't be missed the moment she walked in. Her curiosity was only slightly peaked until she realized something was clearly beneath the black clothes covering the beds. What was it? What would they be learning today?! If she sat close enough would she be able to get a look underneath one of the cloths?! WIGGLE. "Good morning, Professor!" Rylee smiled brightly in greeting as she made her way to his desk to collect a pair of gloves. With the gloves in hand she found herself a place to sit. Front and center right near one of the beds so she wouldn't miss a thing.
In contrast, the next student to enter the room had enough energy in her to light up the room, which was saying a lot given how bright it was. Pity it wasn't a class that required any physical education but who knows, this might come in handy later on. "Good morning, Miss Prichard," he said, giving her a warm smile in return, "You look very excited today." Not that he was complaining, mind you. It made his job easier, after all. The fifth year greeted the Professor with a smile and helped himself to a pair of the gloves on his way past.
He chose a spot on the mat that wasn’t too close to the beds, but it wasn’t his usual spot right at the back either. He was curious. Hopefully, there was something COOL hidden under there.
Students were amusing, weren't they?
Arms still crossed at his chest, Hirsch let an amused smile cross his face as he watched the young Slytherin enter the room. It was probably these kind of reactions that he enjoyed the most and was, partially, the reason behind his weird classroom setups. There was also the fact that it would help to wake up the students but, given what time of the day it was, if they weren't awake by now, then that was going to be a cause for concern.
It was probably those exams.
Hirsch returned the smile and even nodded his head at Mr Carden before the boy went to sit down on the mat. Which, wasn't right at the back? Good good. Text Cut: Juni Quote:

Hospital beds? That was a good indication that this was going to be one of the interesting kind of lessons today. Although her head of house had a way of making every lesson interesting. She grabbed a pair of rubber gloves. ”Good Morning, Professor.” As she passed on the way to find a mat to sit on around one of the beds.
If Hirsch could read her thoughts, he would've felt very proud that she thought he could make every lesson interesting. Maybe it had a lot to do with the subject itself but it still would've given him a boost in self-confidence. After all, which teacher wouldn't want to be told that they could make every lesson interesting?
For the time being, however, he gave the Ravenclaw a smile as she entered and said, "Morning, Miss Primeaux." Hopefully, they will think that this lesson was an interesting because he certainly thought it was. Text Cut: Nettie Quote:

Still, the first year happily took a pair and headed to her normal seat near the front, which had of course been replaced by a mat, and plopped down. "Hello Professor!" she said happily, greeting him as she always did.
So, this place looked like a hospital wing, so....what did that mean exactly? Healing stuff? But that wasn't really DEFENSE was it...?
Hirsch watched the next student enter the room and was quite glad that that infamous Ravenclaw curiosity wasn't getting the better of her. In fact, he half-expected someone in the room to be curious enough to take a peek at what was on those hospital beds and was silently glad that no one had the clever idea to do just that. Maybe constant vigilance was working.
Maybe. "Hey, Miss Gladin," Smile!
And she'd find out very soon where the defence part came in. Text Cut: Skylar Quote:

But at least Hirsch was a good professor and it didn't help that he was easy on the eyes (although all the professors kind of were).
But she did nearly freeze at the sight of the hospital beds. While she had previously considered creatures healing as a career possibility, the presence of the hospital beds were a reminder of someone else. And it pained her to think of him, in every possible way. Was it too late to slip a puking pastille into her mouth to skive off this lesson?
Curling up in her sister's bed sounded good right about now instead, but Skylar drew a deep breath. She couldn't very well be an effective Cursebreaking Auror if she couldn't even deal with heartbreak, could she? With that she took a step forward and a "Good morning, Professor," polite enough, although refrained from eye contact. She spotted Junia and Vivian but honestly, wasn't in the mood to sit near them, so instead sought a seat near the window. She could distract herself with the pretty winter scenery outside, maybe.
The sight of the next student to enter the room did spark a thought in his head: one that he'd been meaning to ask the girl but hadn't gotten round to it. And that was whether she'd had the chance to talk to the Headmistress recently? Because while he could easily introduce her to as many Aurors as possible, especially seeing as he was dating one, the Headmistress would probably do a better job of providing the Cursebreaking experience.
Just saying.
Shaking the thought away, Hirsch smiled at the Captain and said, "Morning, Miss Diggory...." There was not a chance that he'd miss that small bit of hesitation between the three Slytherin seventh years, one that made him furrow his eyebrows as he glanced between the three of them. Had he missed something...?
On second thought, it was none of his business.
While Hirsch was greeting the students, he stole momentary glances at his watch to make sure he wasn't running behind time. When it looked as though no one else was going to enter the room, he whipped out his wand and flicked it towards the door, causing it to shut with a loud SNAP!
Did that get people's attention? Good. "Good morning and welcome to another Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson!" he called, the wide smile returning to his face, "Today's going to be a fairly gruesome lesson but you'll learn something important about a new form of dark magic and a way to defend yourselves against it."
Maybe it was a good idea this lesson was taking place at the time of day it was: the amount of vomiting that might occur if it took place after lunch would be.... unfortunate. "I want to talk to you about a spell called the Flesh-Eating Hex, which does exactly as the name suggests." Funnily enough. Hirsch raised his wand and gave it another flick, this time, at the blackboard behind him. A small chalk drawing of a human figure appeared, clean and untouched by magic. "One cast, the Flesh-Eating Hex starts to eat away at the person's flesh at the exact spot that it hits the body." At this, he gave his wand a complicated wave at the drawing on the blackboard. A deep red light shot out of it and hit the figure, causing a spot of red chalk to appear on the chest drawn on the board. "It slowly moves outwards, consuming more and more of the flesh as it goes." As he said this, the spot of red chalk started to move outwards, filling up more of the drawing of the body as it went. "The infected skin ends up being reddish-purple in colour so you can see if you, or someone else, has been hit by this spell and can help them. It has other side effects to it as well, including fever and vomiting." Pause. "Overall, it's a very painful way to die because you're, essentially, being eaten alive." Anyone feeling sick yet? "So what I wanted to know from you is: why would someone want to use a spell like this? What uses, positive or negative, does this spell have?" Let's get those brains thinking. OOC: Ohmygooosh look at you guys ;____; *fangirls* Class has officially started so please keep chatter to a minimum! If you haven't posted already and want to, feel free to jump in, I don't mind! Just pretend as though your charrie has been there the entire time ^^
The question is a simple one: why would someone want to use the Flesh-Eating Hex? What uses, positive or negative, does it have? Feel free to think outside the box, we want to see how your charrie thinks! Also, please be considerate of other people's answers and not repeat any!
If the question/wording is confusing/doesn't make sense, please do give me a nudge and I'll be happy to clarify it for you <3
I'll continue this lesson tomorrow at roughly eveningtime GMT+1 if I'm not going crazy over the World Cup.
Thanks, lovelies!
