| Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch With the last five minutes remaining for them to make their rune analysis, Regina made one more sweep around the horseshoe. Just like her first sweep, she was only looking at the runes the students had identified and the meanings of the individual runes.
Her first stop was with Trinetta. With a smile, she glanced over at the girl's note. When she was finished reading through them, the smile still remained. "Great work, Miss Gladin," she said to the first year.
She then went to check up on Maxton to see how he faired with finishing up his rune analysis. The headmistress was pleased to see that he had successfully noted everything for the hinge strap and gold pendant. "Well done, Mr. Carden."
One last check up on Zoryn was due. Though the girl was still ... not herself, the woman bypassed that for the moment to look over the fifth year's work. She was missing the individual rune meanings; however, the right runes were there. "Nice job correctly identifying those runes, Miss Spinnet." If only the girl could be happy about that.
With Maddie, she knew that she and Derfael had been working together and had given them a few pointers. Regardless, she still was going to work over the girl's work. It all seemed to be in order, though there was one unnecessary rune. "Just Hagalaz and Eihwaz for the gold pendant, Miss Kemp," she gently informed the girl.
Then there was Emmalyn, and the current sight of the girl could easily have broken Regina's heart in two. The note that had been added, as well as the blank stare, was enough to let the headmistress know that the Hufflepuff was overwhelmed. She briefly placed a consoling hand on her shoulder and whispered, "Don't worry, Miss Walsh. You gave it your best effort. That is all I ask for." There was room to make mistakes in Ancient Runes, and it was important to recognize those mistakes and learn from them.
Ending her sweep of the horseshoe with Quinn, the woman took and read through the Ravenclaw's parchment. Check and check. There were no errors in this rune analysis. "Well done, Miss Reveille."
Regina gave her wand a firm flick in the direction of the blackboard when it was time to move the lesson along. The white chalk levitated and started drawing out the bind runes that were on the five objects and proceeded to label the items and list the runes that were present in each bind rune. "I must say," the woman said while the chalk was writing, "that I am thoroughly impressed with the work that I saw today. I know that this was not an easy task, and being able to pull out of few runes from a bind rune is quite a victory of itself. Well done."
By the time the chalk was done writing, the headmistress had returned to her usual spot in front of the class. "Now that we have the first step complete, I now want to have a brief class discussion with you all. Now that we know the individual runes," she explained. "I now want you to focus on just one of the bind runes you analyzed. What do you think is the purpose behind the bind rune as a whole? Or, in other words, place yourself in the shoes of the person who made the bind on that specific object and share why those specific runes were bound together or what the intent is for the bind rune." OOC: Nice work on the rune analysis, everyone! It was great seeing every character's thought process here. =)
We are now moving on to the final question of the lesson (mini-activity to follow). For this question, Regina wants your character to share what they think the purpose of the bind rune is. To do this, they will need to look over their notes and mush the meanings of the individual runes together. If possible, try to incorporate the object itself in their answer. (Example: If Laguz, Algiz, and Raidho made up a bind rune on part of a ship, I could say that the purpose of the bind rune is to provide protection from the mysteries of the sea throughout the journey being made.)
There are a multitude of answers that can be given, so feel free to think outside of the box. It is alright if your character wants to piggyback off of someone, but please make sure they explain why they agree/disagree or have something else to add on.
The lesson will continue in roughly 24-30 hours. Have fun!
