"Miss Lydia like washing clothesies?" Tinka almost liked laundry. Her favorite part was stirring the hot, soapy water with her whisk. The steam and bubbles tickled her nose and her whisk made a fun swishy sound. "Miss Lydia warmer now, yes? Tinka like warm."
Lydia followed the sweet little house elf through the dark corridor. Suddenly they were emerging from behind a cart full of bed clothes. The smell of laundry soap and drying clothes filled the room. It was a lovely smell that reminded Lydia of home and her mum humming songs to herself as she did the wash.
"
Oh this is nice, Tinka," said Lydia. By now she was not surprised to note that there were no modern washing machines or dryers. Instead there were large tubs full to the brim with hot water and soap. Lydia began to understand why Tinka liked her whisk so much. She must use it in the laundry!
The laundry room was definitely one of the warmer rooms in the castle, especially down here in the lower corridors where it was always so drafty. Lydia enjoyed the coziness of it all. She stepped up to a tub full of soapy clothes.
"
Do you have an extra whisk, Tinka?" she asked. "
I want to give it a try!"
