He was just starting to circumventing them when he heard that little snippet mentioning Professors, and he stopped abruptly. "Ask one of us what, exactly?" Neither of them seemed the type to cause trouble, but Noble could never tell with Prefects around here. Goodness, one of the ones that had absolutely no sense of self-preservation in the Potions classroom had been given Head Boy of all things.
As for permission or forgiveness? Noble raised an eyebrow, a smirk spreading across his lips. "You sure you really want to roll those dice?"

“I’ve never had much luck with games of chance.” She squeaked out as an answer to his question, only to remember she was still holding a lottery ticket. Her hand moved swiftly behind her back, in an attempt to hide said ticket. He didn’t see that, right?
She looked to Vivian for some signal as to what should be said. “We don’t need a professor. Not really. We were...I mean… we were looking to find a Daily Prophet.” That was a truthful statement. They were looking to get a hold of a copy of the Daily Prophet. She hoped he would be satisfied with that and mosey along without asking any further questions.
Well, truthful was one way to describe Vivian. But perhaps letting Emmalyn hold the ticket was enough proof that she could be trusted, right? Still, since they both found it, they'd have to half the prize and all. Not a bad idea. Imagine what she could do with that much money, though.
Vivian couldn't resist a small laugh. So she wasn't the only one who wasn't a big reader of the Daily Prophet? She wouldn't blame the Hufflepuff at all. The news on there were either random features and the usual happenings at Hogwarts. Like last term, about that Dufftown weekend. Apparently, things that happen here at Hogwarts just always seem to make their way into the Daily Prophet... so she'd rather not read something she'd seen or experienced anyway. "
A... professor?" Well, perhaps they were most likely.
Or the summoning charm could work. Nodding, Vivian almost took her wand out when Professor Noble arrived.
... Err. Vivian wasn't sure she wanted to do any explaining. Were they that suspicious? But the Head Girl side-eyed Emmalyn when she started to look... was she terrified of Noble? Huh. Interesting. "
Good day, professor," Vivian greeted, and then gave Emmalyn another look. Perhaps to make her stop babbling things and showing signs of fear. Don't need a professor? LOL.
"
Yes, sir. We were looking for a copy of the recent Daily Prophet issue," she said. Calm and all. Noble's presence resembled that of a dementor's, and Vivian wasn't going to show weakness. "
Do you happen to have one, Professor? One we could borrow?" And return as soon as possible, of course.
Cue innocent smile.
