As excited as Maddie was about her chocolate, she suddenly felt very upset for Daisy. Maybe she shouldn't have offered her chocolate right now. Maybe it just wasn't the time for something like that. The third year popped a piece of chocolate in her own mouth, but she chewed slowly as she tried to find the words to say to her housemate.
"I'm...I'm sorry to hear about your dad," she said. But then she felt a little better when Daisy accepted a piece of the chocolate. Chocolate always made people feel better, even if it was just for a little while.
"I know you're really sad about your father, but I just bet he's thinking about you right now and wanting you to do well in school. I bet you're going to make him proud!"
