If the cutting was optional, then Chloe was going to opt out. She liked the smooth, unmarred surface of her pumpkin, and it would be forever Halloween-esque with a face cut into it. She wanted a pumpkin she could keep on her desk all year. And she still had the creeping stone-slash-pumpkin monstrosity from before. Probably hard to cut into it when it was all half transfigured.
Math math math math. As soon as she finished jotting down the formula for the transfiguration spell, Chloe dropped her quill and turned her attention back to her pumpkin. "Poor pumpkin. You'll be all stone very soon. I promise." The pumpkin got a little pat pat pat before she pulled out her wand.
Stay strong, sweet little pumpkin. "DURO." Nope, with intention and all those floating figures. "Duro." The pumpkin was already mostly stone, and it changed gray and hard in a moment. So now she needed to try on something else and make the spell work all in one go.
