It was probably not the most grown up and mature thought, not for a proper fifth year like Miss Chloe Kettleburn, but all she could think about was how MUCH she wanted a little pumpkin paperweight. It would look so darling on her desk. And what else could she turn to stone to use as a paperweight? A feather might be cunning.
But first to master it. Chloe drew the incomplete 'D' with her wand, a bit jabby and stunted until the motion felt smoother and more natural. Over and over and over, until she finally felt like she could make the wand motion without jabbing herself or a neighbor in the eye. At least the incantation was pretty simple, without any hidden dipthongs or difficult vowel sounds. DUR-oh. DUUUUUUR-oh. Like calling Derfy from across the room and getting surprised halfway through his name. The thought made her grin, and Chloe looked for Derf to see if he was close enough to share. Nope.
