As people began flocking around Daisy - how very Hufflepuff, yeah? - Derf felt anxious on her behalf. At least, if the roles were reversed he would not want attention drawn to his situation and would have liked to just be left alone. Though he still did not know yet just WHAT his friend's situation was...he was sure it was bleak. It looked as though a dementor were hovering right over the younger girl's shoulder and Derf wished nothing more than to have the ability to cast even a wisp of a patronus on her behalf.
His bright blues did catch Regina out of the corner of his eye, and he sent her a somewhat grateful look for not adding to the crowd. Projecting? Yes he was, but with so many people talking he was overwhelmed on Daisy's behalf. And then Daisy spoke, and he felt his heart drop out of his chest and break on the floor for her. "D-Daisy..." he murmured, swallowing thicking as his hand on her shoulder gave a proper squeeze. "Here...come with me. We can go up to the dais now and speak with Professor Myers, yeah?" The fifth year wasn't exactly going to take no for an answer and his hand was already sliding in to one of hers as she swirled around in his seat to make it easier to stand.
