Well, it seemed like things were going surprisingly swimmingly. No one had yet too many grotesque noises of disgust, or worse, vomited, nor had anyone kicked up a fuss about trying the different foods. It was a change of pace indeed, and not quite as terrible as he’d feared.
From the look on Daisy’s face and quick glug of cucumber water, she’d just concocted some particularly sour…was that applesauce? Interesting decision. Meanwhile, Rylee and Emmalyn seemed to be going for a whole bunch of flavour changes. Although, if they were seriously about trying all the options, they’d seriously underestimated the number of beakers. “You’ll need 20, if you want to do them all,” he commented brusquely as he went past. “Order matters in these pairs.” Since they needed to consider acid to sweet AND sweet to acid.
Moving on, and Maxton’s face of confusion was fantastic. “Salty honey, was that?” Not something Noble fancied, that was for sure. But if it convinced the boy a little more of the power of potions, and why he should pay more attention and not just skulk at the back, that would be a result indeed. And Hattie had gone for the opposite of the miracle berry. “How’s the chocolate?” he asked curiously. Since it wasn’t particularly sweet to begin with, he half wondered if it make the bitter notes just that little more pronounced, or whether it’d become overpowered.
Returning to the front of the class, Noble clapped his hands together and raised his voice over the general hubbub of the classroom. “Okay, everyone, there’s five minutes left. Please leave your notes on your observations with me for marking and leave your workbench clean. If you would like to take some potion, you may come collect up to three vials." He was about to dismiss them, but the leftover food on the side caught his eye. "Feel free to take any of the food if you can't wait for lunch.” Less waste for him to dispose of if they took it…not that there seemed to be much other than the hot sauce and horseradish.
"Once you're all packed up, you're dismissed."
