His go-to, deeply ingrained politeness would have been nearly impossible to muster. So instead of introducing himself he let her stare and continued to think a mile a minute about how his entire family was going to look down on him for such an abysmal sorting. Quote:

"Congrats, Al. Welcome to Hufflepuff." This eager expression on Simon's face would last about of the feast. He knew as soon as he would get into his Dorm with Derfael and Eno. The poor Hufflepuff would have to deal once again with that Clump of Molten Clothes on the Ground that Simon keeps forgetting the Name Derfael gave to it. Until he heard a familiar voice. Alessandro had spent the better part of the train ride with Simon. And, honestly, he vaguely remembered him mentioning he was in Hufflepuff but it was not the first thing that jumped out in his memory. Oh no. Simon liked his cousin Chloe. Al was not likely to forget such an juicy piece of intel. Leecey would be thrilled to hear all about it in his next letter to her.
If she ever spoke to him again after being sorted into Hufflepuff, that is.
He was able to conjure up a half-hearted smile, “Hello, Simon. And thanks. My mother was a Hufflepuff.” That was the line he had been repeating in his head over and over since being sentenced to yellow for the next seven years. It softened the blow somewhat. Quote:

A first kiss that had now OFFICIALLY been had...and now rather than looking anxiously at the Slytherin table (for several reasons) he was glancing over at the Gryffindor one for Abey. But Simon's presence drew him out of that spiral of confusion. "Si----MORD!" Derf greeted with a wave. AL. He had said Al - which was clearly short for something. "Indeed, welcome to Hufflepuff," he grinned at the first year. Though, said first year did not look...pleased to be here? There was a lack of that first year twinkle in his eyes at least. "Chocolate frog?" he offered.
If chocolate could help with dementor drainage it could do anything, you know? Then, almost immediately, Al was being dragged into polite conversation with the Hufflepuff prefect. He noted the badge almost immediately. For someone of importance in the school— as Al also intended to be of somewhat importance one day— he begrudgingly found some of his manners. “Thank you.” He didn’t want the chocolate frog. Between losing his appetite and being surrounded by the prospect of a feast full of food, chcoloate now felt silly. But he did not want to be rude. Especially to a prefect. “I’m Alessandro Toussaint. And you are?”
