yaritza tacita núnez was born on 13 november 2077 in the small, but violent city of caracarai, brazil. she was born to no-maj parents, reina and aurelio, who were of poor mexican and portuguese-liberian (respectively) descent. in 2080, when she was just over three years old, her parents decided that it was time to immigrate to a new place, one where their daughter would be safe and where she would be able to have better opportunities than caracarai could offer : the united states of america.

first they moved from brazil back to reina's family home, the coastal state of oaxaca, mexico. they settled in the small town of puerto ángel in the municipality of san pedro pochutla. they didn't have the most lavish of lives while they lived there, and only her father was able to find work, doing the laborious and gruelling job of a deck-hand, working for the bare minimum. while they didn't lead extravagant lives, they found joy in each other. ariza would spend the next 4 years of her life there, with doting parents who gave her anything she could need. in 2082, her mother became pregnant, and gave birth in 2083. ariza now had a baby sister named iolanda, who she loved more than she had ever loved anything in the world, and took care of her as best a 6 year old could. but with the new baby came new complications. when iolanda was a year old, she was diagnosed with what was first thought to be autism, but later revealed to actually be the rare neuro-genetic disorder called angelman syndrome. the medical bills started raking up and with only a minimum wage salary to pay all their expenses, the family was left impoverished.

in 2084, after a year of struggling to keep their heads above the water, they moved to the city of nogales, sonora, mexico, where they were to stay with ariza's maternal aunt and her ample family. this time her mother became the breadwinner of the family when she decided to open up her own laundry and dry cleaning shop, where she worked long and hard hours to provide for her family. ariza started attending preschool at cuauhtemoc elementary school, where she quickly learned how to read and showed herself to be a quick learner when it came to maths. her father, after a period of unemployment, managed to land a job as a construction worker, and the family was able to move out of reina's sister's small home, which had begun to become far too crowded.

ariza's mother became pregnant again in early 2085 and gave birth to another girl, named tanis. because of her mother's small business becoming quite successful, the family again started looking into immigrating to america. they still had a dream for the future of their daughters and wanted nothing but the best for them
