Her eyes widened as what they were looking for popped out of what appeared to be nowhere. Had it been Levi's charm? Or had something else caused it to happen? Arielle honestly didn't care. All she wanted to do was be done with this and feel like a human being again. Slowly she approached the sphinx, wondering what this nonsense about a riddle was... Then she remembered. How could she have forgotten that sphinxes told riddles??? Wow, she was dumb sometimes... Blame it on the heat.
Figuring that the gift was the scarab (because it couldn't really be anything else), Arielle presented it. "Here you go." Now lay that riddle on them. Quote:

He too had arrived at the conclusion that the sphinx meant the scarab. Or did it mean the amulet? Somehow the scarab seemed to make more sense anyway and he watched Ari prepare to hand it over. Now could they have their riddle to move on? Move on hopefully to somewhere a lot cool. Levi was convinced by now that he would die thanks to a heatstroke at any minute. The sphinx simply stared at the female of the pair, her eyes seeming to bore into the woman's soul. They both certainly seemed in dire need of a lesson in proper manners, but was now the right time to do that? The sphinx contemplated this as she continued to look between the two, a smirk playing at the corner of her lips. Such a lesson would likely not be pleasant for the humans but she would bide her time for now. She wanted to see how they would fare at her riddle. Then she would decide.
When she was ready, she began to speak her riddle. "I move very slowly at an almost imperceptible rate. And although I bide my time, I am never late. I accompany life and survive past demise. I am viewed with esteem in many a human's eyes. What am I?" SPOILER!!: Zephyr and Austin Quote:

It goes through the air and it'll kill a person?... Tell her after ya put the scarab thing down.. ".. Zeph was still suffering the near blinding back at the pyramid, he didn't need anymore near death moment or catastrophies.. Quote:

What he really didn't need right than was to anger her and cause both himself and his friend any more problems.
The teen nodded once. "I do." He spoke quiet but sure casting a glance to Zephyr as he spoke before his blue eyes moved back to the Sphinx before them. Slowly but confidently he walked forward laying the scarab in question at the Sphinx's feet. "There you are..." Stepping backwards several steps he came to stand once more at this partners side as their riddle was given.
Aus turned to look at Zephyr when he said he knew he answer. Lightening was possible but that wasn't the first thing that came to his mind. He was thinking of a snowflake, once it was touched it melted but he wasn't entirely sure. There as also a butterfly but those more flew not float and well they didn't exactly disappear if touched so no that couldn't be it. "I don't know... I'm not sure it's lightening, man. I mean sure it moves through the sky but touching it would be our demise not the lightening's." Austin grinned a little bit thoughtfully mumbling the riddle under his breath yet again before looking at Zeph. "Dude! What about bubbles? Light as air and kinda float or drift through the sky... you touch one and it pops?" Yes? It made sense to him. Quote:

They conversed for a few minutes on the answer to the riddle they had been given... Apparently Zeph had heard it way differently and after Austin had repeated the riddle a couple times aloud he realized that Austin was right..
Lightening wasn't at all the right answer... In fact it was so the furthest from the correct answer.. " Dude... No .. I think ya had it with the snowflakes.... The sphinx isn't gonna know about bubbles... But Snowflakes occur naturally.. She may have seen them in the past... ", getting all excited... Sure it was the answer as e prodded him.." Go on, Aus... Give her the answer.. " Quote:

This was why he wanted to talk it out before going ahead and just giving the Sphinx the very first answer that they came up with. Talking things out was always helpful and it tended to make more sense when you heard it out loud.
Hearing Zephyr's take on his own thoughts made him think more closely about it. "True. Being as we're standing here in a dessert bubbles aren't very likely, are they?" Yeah, he wasn't entirely sure. "Alright, I'm going, I'm going..." Snowflakes it was.
Slowly stepping forward he looked at the Sphinx before him. "Snowflakes. We think the answer is snowflakes." Hopefully they were right! The sphinx's eyes rested on the scarab at her feet as she waited for this pair of humans to answer her riddle. She could hear their whispers and she scoffed at what they seemed to think of her. Didn't know what bubbles were, please. She wasn't some mindless animal. Her riddles stumped even the wisest of humans, yet they thought she was ignorant of the world? And snowflakes certainly weren't any more likely to appear here in the desert than bubbles were.
Her eyes flashed angrily as one of them spoke. "Your answer is incorrect. And you insult my intelligence," she added with a snarl as she began to advance on them.
