Slowly he walked closer as he was looking up at this magnificient beast."
I totally agree.. Just don't get too close until it tells us to approach fully?".. Truth be told he had no Idea what to say to the Sphinx, but he figured he'd give it a good ole American try.. " Oh great and Wise One... We come bearing you a gift from the Great Pyramid... A scarab artifact you seek... Please stir and to us do speak?... ", He called up to the sphinx as he presented them while Austin offered it the stone statue in his hand. He thought his greeting seemed rather clever being that they'd be having to answer some sort of riddle given to them by the sphinx. Quote:

Austin didn't need to be told twice. There was no way he was going to get himself attacked when there was no reason for that to happen. While Zeph greeted the sphinx for the both of them, Aus continued to hold the scarab out in his hand in offering. He wasn't entirely sure if their greeting was on point or not but it was something.
All they needed now was for the sphinx to accept or deny their offering and give them the riddle. One they could easily solve would be nice. Silently, the sphinx watched the first of the two humans to approach her. Ridiculous things, humans were, and she let an amused smirk play at her lips as one of them spoke. She took her time answering, allowing her eyes to fall on the outstretched hand. "A scarab, do you say?" she finally drawled slowly after what was surely to be a long and very uncomfortable silence to the humans. "Leave it at my feet." She would inspect it momentarily. "But before I can let you pass, you must answer me this - "As light as air, I float through the skies. But a human's touch will find my demise. Who am I?" And they'd better answer wisely. Who knew what fate would befall them if they were incorrect. SPOILER!!: Levi and Arielle Quote:

"We can both try at the same time, that way we can cover more ground.''
Levi raised his wand. He walked a few paces then cast the Charm.
Nothing.
But he wasn't about to give up. He moved on to keep on trying. Hopefully Ari was having better luck than he was. Quote:

What kind of torture were they in for next? That would be revealed soon enough, but for the moment they needed to focus on the task at hand and find the sphinx. On the plus side it wouldn't exactly be tiny. "Sounds good," she told Levi cheerfully enough, feeling that even if she could die of sunstroke at any moment at least they weren't in that awful tomb anymore. "I'm not having any luck either," she added a few minutes later, after trying to reveal the sphinx in various locations. "I hope that we don't need to travel back on the camels?" WERE they even there anymore? Or were they gone now in some cruel trick? Even though they were far from Arielle's favourite form of travel, walking the entire way was something that she did NOT want to do.
Why couldn't there be any portkeys or broomsticks? Could they apparate? Quote:
“I wish there was a huge pool we could jump into right now,’’ Levi grumbled but loud enough for Ari to hear. He wasn’t a man of much complaints but this heat was too much. What exactly were the persons who ran this competition thinking? But he was not going to give up. “I certainly hope not. That sphinx must be around here somewhere…’’ Levi stopped in his tracks rather suddenly.
“Ari! Look!” One of his charms had revealed the sphinx! The relief washed over him. They could solve the riddle then just get out of the blasted sunshine. “Erm, Hi?’’ Levi made sure to stand a bit of a distance from the sphinx after approaching cautiously just in case for some reason it decided to pounce. One never could be too careful. “I think you have a riddle for us.’’
Such basic charms did not work on sphinxes, even if the silly humans thought they did. This sphinx simply allowed them to think that it worked as she would reveal herself in her own time and not on the timeframe of those who thought they were superior to her.
Her tail twitched impatiently as one of the pair approached, her eyes trained on him ever so carefully. Hi? The sphinx rose one eyebrow as she continued to look at him silently, considering him. After what seemed like a lengthy time for her to weigh her decisions, she finally spoke. "I believe you have a gift for me. Present it first, and then perhaps I may bestow on you the riddle which you seek." Things worked on her terms here.
