Did the groundskeeper know he was crushing this little boyish heart drumming in his chest? DID HE? That if was noncommittal and gave little hope that that fantasy would ever play out. Besides, Valerie Gray was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of the third year's league and, well, as he had discussed with Liam...it had really just been a misguided crush.
But....this color choosing business....
It was always so awkward for the third year. There was always a bit of a lag where he had to translate what he saw to what life experience had trained him to acknowledge with color and even then he was somewhat shooting in the dark with things. Cautiously, and sorta hoping someone would SAY what color ribbon they had selected aloud so he could have a better ballpark figure, Derf grabbed a ribbon with his eyes closed and looked down at it.
Oh thank Merlin. Blue. That was easy enough. Although by process of elimination and also color subtraction he still could have sorted out orange...but still.
Two ribbons later, Derf headed back over to his broom and tied them on as instructed. Much to his relief, he saw that Jessa also had the same color as him and quickly made his way over to stand by her.
