That and all the shivering she was doing even under her cloak had thrown the twelve-year-old for a loop to the extent that she hadn't really even said hi to anyone. She'd sort of just quietly joined the back of the class.

Emmeline had already been outside for a looong time this morning before lessons started 'cause Sirius had been SUPER awake and rowdy and stuff today. Sooo she'd been in the snow for loads longer than usual, mhm. Still, she tried hard to think of what sport Professor B. was talking about, straining her memory to overheard conversations between Ilvermorny students last year. She was just about to give up when it came to her; the second year raised her hand excitedly and blurted, "Is it Quidpot Professor?" That was the name of their broom sport, right??

Haraldur smiled at the young Gryffindor. "Quodpot." He nodded her way. "That's correct miss Sparkes, very good."

Mama wasn't too happy when he wrote home to her about it." Patrick chuckled thinking of his mothers angered expression.

Haraldur raised one eyebrow and chuckled. "Well, if you're playing a game of Quodpot, that is bound to happen, mr Dooley." He said, amused. "And yes, that is the sport I was referring to."

"Quodpot, as Patrick and Emmeline said," Skylar reiterated, although Emmeline had mispronounced it slightly, but it was close enough. "It came to be when this wizard, Abraham Peasegood was visiting the United States from England and his wand came into contact with a quaffle in his trunk." So apparently it was true, you really did have to be vigilant where you stowed your wand; history was evidence to that.

Haraldur nodded, waving with his boots a little to get the excess snow off them. "Very true, miss Diggory." He looked over at her when she finished. "A fortunate accident caused Quodpot to be invented."

One her own, she was at least a year ahead of where she needed to be, but it didn't annoy her any less when they deviated from the things they were required to learn under their own system. She'd have preferred the man teach them some more about quidditch--not everyone was a superstar quidditch player who'd be blazing through the lesson, there were still some of them that were very willing to learn and develop the skill. Or maybe they could focus on another aspect of transportation, since they'd done flying carpets this term already but just not another piece of American culture.

It wasn't to say she didn't like them but rather that the young girl had become overwhelmed. Last term, their lessons had become over-saturated despite their American counterparts having their lessons separately.

To hear that this might be continuing was enough to send her stomach churning in uncomfortable knots.

For now, she would remain quiet and hope that every single one of them that had guessed so far would be wrong.

Haraldur, unaware of the Ravenclaw's sour mood, simply sat wiggling his toes to keep the blood flowing and glanced over at a raised hand.

“I haven’t played it Professor.. but I have heard about it, though. Isn’t it played between two teams? And there are eleven players in each team.” Yeah, she knew THAT much but the Hufflepuff didn’t know anything about its history.

Haraldur nodded. "It is a team sport, that's true miss Kramer." He said, shifting his weight where he was sitting on the trunk."It's very much relying on team effort."

Haraldur looked over at one of the new addition to the class that year and gave her smile. "They did indeed, miss Dimple. Why don't you ask one of your older class mates after class if they can tell you about the IMPS challenge." But for now, Quodpot was the topic they would be focusing on.

"Valerie Gray played that," he said dreamily.

WHY couldn't they have done this LAST term then? WITH the North American school? Like...a joint both school flying lesson? THAT would have been NEAT! Now...he was just longing for the friends he had made and that were no longer here.

"That's... Very possible, my boy." Haraldur watched Derf's expression as he mentioned the former competitor. "After today, if they come to visit again, you can play it with her." And 19 other people but still.

"And didn't it then explode?" Sam added to Skylar's answer, since the Slytherin's answer didn't really explain how quodpot came to be...only an unfortunate accident. "Which they found a whole load of fun and wanted to reproduce."

"Exactly miss Tyler. The very heart of Quodpot. The exploding quaffle." Haraldur clapped his hands once in honor of that answer before he stood up and brushed the snow off his coat. It was time to move on.

”Very good everyone.” Haraldur stood and brushed snow off his coat before he continued. ”Quodpot was invented by Abraham Peasegood after a quaffle exploded in his trunk and today the sport is the most popular one in North America. It's about time we learn it.”

The instructor clasped his hands together behind his back as he stood in front of the group. ”But before we do that, we need to divide us up in two teams. To differentiate who’s on which team, we have…” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of orange and purple ribbons. Courtesy of the house elves. He waved them in front of the class happily. ”Choose either purple or orange and take two ribbons of whichever color you choose. Tie one of the ribbons by the handle of your broom and the other around the tail of it. That way your classmates will know who’s who.”

So they can send an exploding quaffle their way. Heh.

"Those of you who did not bring a broom, please grab one of the school brooms provided as usual and we can get started.”

OOC: Yes so, pick a team. Team Purple or Team Orange. Take two ribbons from Haraldur and tie them around the handle and tail of the broom. Easy peasy lemon something.

Try to keep the teams sort of equal. But you got that. Yeee you got it.

Please label your post Team Purple or Team Orange for this mini-activity. Other than, no post count required.

We’ll be moving on in 2 daysMonday 30th October, 8 am GMT + 2.
