Fascinating! This was definitely going to come in handy. If she could actually master it, of course. Professor Kennedy made it look so simple and Clara felt slightly nervous as other classmates around her either started scribbling madly or waving their wands eagerly.
She wrote down 'Stellaris' and the correct pronunciation 'Stell-AIR-is' and internally voiced it a couple of times. For some reason, her brain kept on thinking 'Stell-ARR-is', which was very frustrating. It was like her brain was hard-wired one way already, making it difficult to even start.
She began mumbling to herself, "Stell-AIR-is...okay, yeah, that's it...Stell-ARR-is...okay, no, not again...Stell-AIR-is...it's 'air', you know, like the thing you breathe in to live, air...STELL-ar-is...ok, wow, way off." She huffed and sighed but tried it one last time. "Okay, you got this. Stell-AIR-is."
Good. Clara pulled out her wand and looked at it with determination. She waved it in the shape of a star and said clearly, "Stell-AIR-is". One single spark shot out and she felt relieved. This was at least better than nothing. Maybe another go, though? And this time not so forced sounding? She was sure she over-pronounced the syllables.
She cleared her throat and tried to make the star more, er, star-like this time. The first time she was sure she ended up drawing some sort of deformed square. That and the stiff delivery of the incantation itself probably got to her. "Stellaris!" Clara half-yelled, almost bracing herself for the impact. A small star appeared for about a second, with hints of red and blue, then faded away. Not quite the professor's work, but it was a star all right.
