Derf was trying not to think about much of anything, like how different this hug felt. But he was going to just assume that was because he currently had two bread rolls tucked inside Etta's bra under his shirt. That was BOUND to make things feel loads different, you know? Among, erm, other things. Things that he kinda hoped Natalie hadn't noticed because he didn't want things to get complicated. So many of his friends were getting that way, all these confusing dynamics and THINGS done 'for science' - so they said. Derf didn't want to experiment...he just wanted to BE and right now there was some super confusing stuff going on that was kinda making it hard to just BE.

Which made him subconsciously scared about things...but he was doing a decent job of pushing all those thoughts away at the moment.

Especially because there was Mermish to study. "Um...y-yeah!" he nodded, voice cracking just a little and finally letting go of her so he could reach for his book and parchments more easily.
