| semi-giant activity/catch up post because Stasya says she has to treat them Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict They were studying salamanders, and Stasya felt a moment of triumph that she’d guessed it before they’d been told. It wasn’t as if there were too many fire-related creatures, or at least ones that involved giant fire pits. But, in all her excitement and glances at Derf and Emmeline and all her other friends, she’d neglected to actually offer any of her own knowledge about the creatures. By now, though, she figured that Professor Wayland understood how much she knew about creatures. She spent enough time in the barns, anyway, and she was going to believe that he’d forgive her for not having said anything. Besides, they’d been instructed to actually care for the salamanders in the fire, and that was way more important than answering questions, although she did make sure to write down all the information they were being given on the subject.
Following that, she slipped her dragonhide gloves on and immediately got to work. She had salamanders to treat, and she’d hurried to collect her container of chili powder before the ickle little creatures had to wait too long. In case there were some who really needed help, after all. She didn’t want any rotting away in there. Like the poor salamander Derf had found, which broke her heart. But it also made her that much more determined. She didn’t want any salamanders suffering on her watch.
Peering into the flames again, she darted her hand in once she spotted a tiny little salamander. Maybe it was even a baby, and she cradled it in her hand as she examined it for any signs of scale rot. There was a tiny bit on one of its back legs and a spot on its tail, so she got a bit of chili powder and rubbed it into the areas carefully before she gently returned it to the spot in the flames where she’d found it. Only to notice a second one not far away, so she claimed it next.
The second one had a giant flaky patch on its back, so she treated it with chili powder like she had the first one, wondering if they were related somehow. Maybe this one was even the first one’s mama, or a sibling or something. Salamanders had to have families, right? She felt like it was possible, and stroked the salamander’s back once more before she returned it to the fire too. Hoping that the other salamanders that Derf and Emmeline had treated would be okay.
Now off to find a third, if she had time left. Or maybe Professor Wayland would let her check for more hurt salamanders after the lesson.
