Maisie swallowed. The augureys looked scary. She tied her hair back in a low ponytail. It was the only time she tied it back, when she needed it out of the way. Usually when she was afraid of it getting in something, like Potions, or ink. This time, she was afraid of getting it tangled up in the bird’s claws.
When it was her turn, Maisie, being young and having romantic ideas of what fairies should be, took a pile of fairies to feed her bird. She arranged her letters, blue like her house, in two immaculately separate, perfectly aligned words (Maisie had issues with neatness). She hesitated, then poured a big helping of fairies over each word, leaving the tip of the ‘Y’ and the diagonal of the ‘N’ clear for her to see. “Will my mum find out about the Floo Powder?” She asked, shooting a worried glance at the Professor.
Julia, the augurey, blinked at her. She sniffed at the fairies from a distance, then turned her head away and went off to someone else’s letters. Oh, Maisie thought. “I guess that means it’s uncertain, or unclear?”
