The sound of martial arts and wandless magic piqued his interest, especially because he'd spend countless hours as a kid doing martial arts, but something else caught his attention first.
.......... Baklava?
An amused grin spread across his face. "Baklava tastes very nice, by the way. You should try it sometime, if you haven't already." A little too sweet for him but still nice. "How was Krav Maga? Did you enjoy it?" Important to know, really.
But the mention of his progress with wandless magic made Hirsch sit up slightly. "Really?" he asked, his eyebrows shooting up, "That is huge! The fact that you can feel it in your fingertips is still a huge step forward, a sign that things are going in the right direction." If he needed the reassurance. "Well done! And this is exactly the kind of feeling you should be getting, even with nonverbal magic. All you'll need to do now is direct that magic and drive it out." Which was much easier said than done. "I'd love to continue the after-school classes. Which area do you want to look into this time? Martial arts or wandless magic?" "I have tried baklava once before. I do like it, though we don't tend to get it. I'd like to have it more often, honestly." Kyle couldn't help smiling. He liked sweets. Even the blood lollies at the sweets store that he'd tried before. Though, Jace thought he was a little strange for liking it.
"I do enjoy Krav Maga, actually," Kyle said as he thought about it. "It's an interesting form of martial arts, I think. Dad has us learning about both the defense aspect of it as well as the apprehension aspect, in case we'd like to become aurors one day, though I'm not really certain what I want to do. My brother joined the Ministry hoping to become an auror, and they put him in a different department. Though he's not talking at all about what he does. In any case, I don't know if I want to be an auror or not, but I'm finding I like Defense a lot more as I'm learning about it." Even if it wasn't his best class. Yet.
And then, his steps toward performing wandless magic were reassured that he was doing the right thing. Kyle bounced a little with a "Yay!" Then remembered himself and cleared his throat, calming himself down. He was honestly trying to be less hyper. "I'm glad I seem to be moving in the right direction."
So, what did he want to work on this term? Honestly, he wanted to work on wandless magic some more, since coaching might be good for finally getting that first spell to work. But he had made plans that this term he would be working on physical defense. He crossed his arms and bowed his head as he thought long and deep about it. This was an important decision, after all. But the dummies would always be there for him to fight against, but coaching for wandless magic would be harder to obtain. He'd practiced over the summer, but wasn't quite able to get there and he didn't know if that was a fault of not having tutoring, or if he just wasn't ready yet. He finally decided...
"I think I want further lessons on wandless magic. I can practice my martial arts against the dummies, after all. But I think I've gotten as far as I can practicing on my own over the summer with wandless magic."
