Maybe that was why he was staring at the back of the door with a confused look on his face.
Shaking his head, Hirsch picked up the wand sitting on his desk and gave it a flick towards the door. The door swung open slowly, revealing the Defence professor leaning back on his seat with a cup of coffee cupped in his hands. It was needed to kick start the day, after all. "Come in!" OOC: JOEEEEEL! You're welcome to post in the office thread now ^^
To anyone else, the board Hirsch was currently frowning at might have looked slightly odd, making him look slightly mad in the process, but to the man, it made a lot of sense. There were notes everywhere with pictures and further notes hung up and being linked to the central one. Every now and then, the man would tap his wand at the various pieces of parchment, making the words wriggle around on their own and form new ones.
It looked crazy but, then again, that's how lesson planning went.
He hardly registered his surroundings and, if it wasn't for the pause he took to rub his eyes, he might not have even noticed the knock on the door. Adjusting his glasses back in place, he called out, "Come in!" The Defence Professor settled back onto the edge of his desk, still frowning slightly at the board but, this time, intrigued as to who the visitor was. OOC: HAI lovely! The next knock that came on his door was so faint, so timid, that Hirsch almost missed it. In fact, the man paused during his marking and looked up at the door, wondering whether there had been a knock or whether he'd imagined the whole thing. It wouldn't be a far-fetched thought, would it? And he wasn't exactly the type of person who would be pranked - he did think of himself as a type of professor who was slightly too cool for that.
But this didn't stop him from getting up from his seat to see if he was right or not. Pulling the door open slightly, he poked his head through the other side and looked up and down the- "Isa?" Surprised? He certainly was. "I- come in, come in." He held the door open, hoping that she didn't have another question about why people did bad things. If so, he might need more coffee for a conversation like that. OOC: GRIFFIIIIIN You're welcome to post in the office thread now ^^
It was weird that she was so nervous about talking to Professor Hirsch. Usually the fourth year Hufflepuff was very bubbly and extroverted, happy to talk to anybody. There was something about the subject taught by Professor Hirsch that dampened her spirits though. Maybe that was why she was feeling hesitant about the conversation to come, or maybe it was the embarrassment over her poor marks in the class the past few years. At first when the door didn't open Isa considered leaving with the knowledge that she had tried to meet with the professor but hadn't gone through with it, but before she could actually leave the door finally opened.
Isa got up from the waiting area sofa and walked overto Professor Hirsch. "Hello, Professor Hirsch." she entered the office, waiting until she was inside to speak to the professor. "I've come to speak to you about my performance in defense against the dark arts. I know I haven't done very well in your class in the past and I thought I didn't want to know about the scary dark stuff or anything violent, but I've realised that I do need to know how to defend myself from the very real dangers in the world and there will be OWLs coming up for me next year and those are important exams that will eventually have an impact on what universities accept me and that kind of important stuff. Isa looked at Professor Hirsch, her face turning slightly red as she spoke. It was sort of uncomfortable admitting her struggles with the subject to a professor who she was not particularly close to. She almost wanted to cry about defense against the dark arts ."So I guess what I'm saying is I want to learn... And, um, I might need a tutor for this subject to help me catch up with some of the things I haven't done well on before and help me progress in my defence against the dark arts studies this year." Whew. That was out of the way now. Admitting that was the hard part. Now she just had to worry about what Professor Hirsch would say about that.
