Shaking his head, he turned around and went looking for both the betony leaves and the stargrass plant. Hmmmm. Now,he’d been in here before… but could he remember seeing either before? He thought he had, so he moved in the opposite direction of the sunlight and hoped that he was right in saying that it was one of the plants that could grow in shade. Please be here. Please be right. He thought as he searched around the various areas of plants that Healer Reed kept up.
AHA! Grinning when he found it, he went to move to harvest --- But wait. His name was being shouted. Looking across the room, he found Beau and grinned at him. ”Well done! I’ve found the Betony. I’ll be over in a minute.”
Remy crouched down in front of the plant and decided that he would take some leaves from the bottom of the tree since it grew so well in shade. Now, how to harvest them. Betony was all about the shade, so he would need a dark container - which was fine, since he had glass ones and metal ones… and the metal one would keep the leaves fresh and out of sunlight. Rummaging in his bag, he pulled out one of them and then opened the lid before taking out a pair of clippers. If he remembered his Herbology properly, you were meant to take as much of the stem as possible soo… He held the clippers to the closest point where the leaf met the branch and snipped. And then repeated the same process five times so that he had their required 5 leaves. He instantly put the metallic lid back on to close it tight, and wrote ‘Betony’ on the lid label.
Now. Beau and the Stargrass.
He took the area in a few easy strides and grinned at Beau who was standing next to marshy type soil. Lovely. ”Amazing. Right, we were asked for 32 grams… sooo…” He knelt on the ground at Beau’s feet, and took his scales out of his bag before placing a large, clear container on the pad before setting the scales up. ”Now, Stargrass is really fragile, so lets so if we can do this quickly so it doesn’t break up.” Aiming his wand at his shears, he scourgified them so that he wouldn’t contaminate the plant, then cut off the end of one of the plants. Putting it in the dish, he watched the scale change to 11g.
Huh. Okay. He had to repeat the process five times before he got to 34g, which made him wince. Too much. That meant he wasted some of the plant. Cutting back a little, he managed to get it to 32g. Looking around at some of the few classmates who had also found the garden and the stargrass, he held the extra 2g out on his hand. ”Anyone need 2g more? I’ve cut off too much.” He really would rather not waste it…. But he also didn’t have time to waste - they still had to find the fireseeds… so if no-one took it in the next five seconds, he would leave them and move on.
Aiming his wand at the container, he charmed some water in the base of the tub unsure if it needed to still be wet and natural when they used it in the potion. Looking over at Beau, he grinned. ”Okay, two down.We need somewhere with fire for the fre seeds… but there are lots of them in the castle… so where do you think we should look first? Had Beau had a really great attention span, he would have probably paid attention to what Remy had been doing in Healer Professor Dog Guy's garden place. He would probably need that another time, but ANYWAY he had been too busy thinking about fire and wanting to go FIND THE FIRE and do all of the cool things that were physically possible with magic and fire and wooooOOOOOOOOOOO. When they were all done there though, Beau had been CERTAIN of one thing! That the fireseeds or whatever were going to be in the Gryffindor Common Room and he was going to have to play HERO and save them ALLLLLL FROM THE FIIIIIIIIIIIRE.
Pity.
The long old walk to the tower had been for nothing and the first year was definitely affected by being THE WRONGEST OF THE WRONG.
They'd stopped at a few other places that Remy had suggested and Beau was slowly getting more and more annoyed with how BAD they were doing at this. THEY WERE ON A BLINKING TIME LIMIT AND THEY WERE STUCK SULKING AROUND THE CASTLE WITHOUT FIRE. WITH. OUT. FIRE. Somewhere along the way, the topic of the fireplace in the library had been brought into play and Beau had just headed that way out of courtesy.
He needed a new seventh year.
This one was not useful.
HOWEVER THEY WERE GREETED WITH THE BEST BUSH OF FIRE WOOOOOOOOOW. Beau-ey GASPED LOUDLY and pointed a wiggling finger in the direction of the bush and other students approaching it. "THIS IS SO DANGEROUS AND SO COOL" What if a book set fire?! Could he try it?! Was it magic fire that didn't hurt the books?! Is that why it was here?! SO MANY QUESTIONS.
Instead, he stepped behind Remy and tried his absolute best to push push PUSH the older (and much bigger) boy in the right direction. "We gottA BE FIRST BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK, REMY!!!!!!!!!! DO. YOUR. STUFF." And ask for help if he needed it. Although Beau wasn't sure how much help he would be when he couldn't even manage basic spells yet.
