| pls tell me if i missed any mentions. my eyes are tired and like to betray me Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight The problem with staring up at the Sorting ceremony with such intensity that he was in danger of accidentally scaring the first years, was that Abey sort of missed a lot that was going on around him. Except also not really, because as much as Abey wanted to keep his eyes on the proceedings at the front of the room, it made him so nervous that he also had to keep looking away again.
Lots of people, lots of people but no Junia. YET. YET because of COURSE she would be here DON'T BE SO SILLY ABEY. Mairwen wasn't here yet either and she had no reason to sit anywhere else especially when her Julie was here, so that clearly meant people were still arriving. Also students continued to filter through the doors of the Great Hall, that was a good clue as well. Julie had even waved to him and everything, and because Abey was polite he returned the wave, even if it was sort of a distracted one and he went right back to holding onto the edge of the table like it was a life raft, and then he did exactly the same when Skylar smiled and waved at him too, a little relieved that neither had chosen to strike up a conversation with him because Abey was a little concerned that if he tried to speak to anyone at the moment, that he'd end up just screaming something that didn't make sense instead. And that... that wouldn't be fun. For anyone. But mostly for Abey.
Junia's actual name actually being mentioned drew Abey's attention elsewhere, and so naturally he zeroed on in the girl who had said it - someone Junia knew, he was pretty sure, though it was difficult to remember who everyone was... but this one had a badge! Pretty badge...
Ahem. "O-oh... okay..." Abey squeaked out, which was STRESSFUL because he didn't know her at all and she was OLDER and talking to HIM and ANXIETY LEVELS WERE HIGH. But, well, at least he hadn't screamed incoherently in response. "Thank you!"
He looked away again, intending to keep his eyes trained on the doors to the Great Hall, but instead catching the eye of one of the new first years who had already been sorted (Philippa).
Why.
Was.
She.
Looking.
At.
HIIIIIIIIM?!
Abey quickly looked away again, wide-eyed and nervous and SCREAMING INTERNALLY and breathing juuuuuuust a little erratically, considering just running away right nOW (before the Bloody Baron noticed him and tried to make him leave like he had done in the past) and waiting outside his common room for the Feast to end (except NO because that meant being alone in the castle), when-...
... When a very familiar, very comforting presence appeared beside him. Abey looked towards her, but he already knew that it was Junia and, naturally, he relaxed almost instantly. He would have stolen her arm too, actually, and linked arms, but she had already stolen HIS. "Maybe yes," he replied, finally breaking into a relieved smile. "But it's okay, I think she's here now." Glancing back towards the Sorting again, Abey bit his lip. NATURALLY he wanted to argue that maybe he technically actually didn't get through his own Sorting as it had all been WRONG etc etc etc, but... decided against it, because Junia was nervous too. And Abey possibly knew partly why; he was maybe a little terrified that Aaron and Alanna would be split up, and that he or Junia wouldn't be able to do anything about it. In fact, he was more scared of THAT happening than of remaining the only Botros in Gryffindor.
Maybe because... well... he sort of knew for sure that the latter was definitely going to happen.
While they waited, Abey finally took real note of what was happening at the Slytherin table, mostly because Junia was. And... Maxton's food was... um...
Genius, really. "I have sweets from the train in my pocket, if you want some?" Abey whispered, turning back to Junia. "I actually saved some to share with the twins, especially in case they-..."
No time to finish that sentence, because, speaking of the twins, it looked like it was about to be their turn...
There were a TENSE FEW MOMENTS THERE, specifically the entire stretch of time between Aaron's house being called, and Alanna's. And then... relief. Sort of.
And a little tiny incy wincy huge amount of jealousy, and maybe just a dash of longing, and maybe just a whole lot of resignation that there was still only one Botros lion. A red sheep. "Did you guess Hufflepuff, too?" Abey asked Junia, keeping his eyes on the twins and trying not to think TOO much about how neither he nor Junebug were in a house with the littlest Botroses. "... Maybe I can ask Derf to make sure they're okay, and to tell me if they're not..."
Fretting. Fretting was already happening.
