Which made him wonder about leashes for newts and since he could not think of anywhere that created those so PERHAPS he had his little nugget to contribute to the wizarding community at large? But then again...Derf sorta had this THING with leashes. Also known as...the Hufflepuff really did not like them all that much.
They were like...little prisons in a way, you know? Little portable prisons.
Passing by an open compartment, Derf paused as the newt did and felt the wind blow through his unkempt blonde hair. Open window? Open door? Huh? The third year looked up and grinned instantly seeing Stasya - although oblivious at present to how unsettled she seemed - and his attention naturally went to the squirrel. "Hiya Dobby," he waved to it as he scooped up Scamander from the floor. He was going to assume the open door was an open invitation, okay? "Hi," he grinned while plopping unceremoniously in the seat right next to the lioness. In fact, the open compartment door had maybe been an open invitation. Stasya wasn't sure, considering she hadn't actually seen any of her friends as of yet, not since she'd gotten on the train, and if she hadn't been so distracted, she would've remembered that it was likely most of them had things they'd want to tell her. Friends usually did, after all, even if she really wasn't feeling like telling everyone the stuff going on in her own life.
Not yet, anyway. Not until she'd had time to adjust to it, to talk to Professor Hirsch and see if he could give her any clarity on it. If he could tell her things would be okay, or if they weren't. She honestly didn't know, and maybe that bothered her more than she wanted to admit. She didn't know if she'd be okay.
A distraction would have been awfully welcome, yet she wasn't feeling like asking. She barely had even realized anyone had entered the compartment until she heard the voice greeting Dobby. The very familiar voice, and she'd glanced over as Derf plopped down next to her with Scamander. "Hi," she replied, managing a smile for him. And also..."Hi Scamander!" It had been a while since she'd seen either of them, really, so they deserved a happy Stasya. Even if deep down she didn't feel happy at all. "Is Picketta coming back to Hogwarts too" She didn't see the little bowtruckle, but she knew that didn't mean she wasn't around.
