Kristen's facial expression did not change one bit when the woman mentioned her possible prison sentence. She let silence fall between them as she looked back down at the folder of documents about her family. As she read through the files, she was thinking about what to say next - or what she would even do to get out of this situation.
She didn't have that feeling that she was stuck in this situation, but she also didn't know what she was going to do.
"I don't know anything about money laundering," she told her in the most honest voice, looking up from her reading. "Everything is this folder is news to me." Was she lying? Possibly. However, what she said following that was the complete truth: "Look, I am just a woman trying to take care of my little girl. Do you know how it feels to be a single mother?" She glanced the woman over and added, "Probably not." She could answer that question herself.
"You can hold me for however long you want to," She put the closed folder back onto the desk between them as if to make a statement, "but I have no answers for you." |
