But great Circe, Duncan had theatrics on the mind today, didn't he? Melanie found herself rolling her eyes, and if she wasn't careful, they'd roll right out of her head, as her mother would say. She was all for letting Kaysha take her blindfold off and producing the fake "thing" she had wanted to show Kaysha, but of course Duncan had to commandeer the whole situation. She had to keep the scoff from her throat. Her brother was ridiculous. He was so extra sometimes.

"You can even touch it if you like," Melanie whispered. The powder was surely entering Kaysha's nostrils, right? She thought she could see it slithering in the air eerily as it penetrated her pores...her senses. Her nose and mouth. It smelled like death, and it made Melanie crinkle her nose. The decoy was in a pouch in her pocket, but she'd wait until the powder was all gone, completely in Kaysha's mind.
