Post 5 Gryffindor for life Notorious Niffler Summer was approaching way too fast in Emmeline's opinion. She was glad that there wasn't any more icky snow, though there was loads of rain to replace it, but the end of term meant her friends all separating for the summer. She'd taken it for granted that all year she was able to find her friends and go hang out or talk to them whenever she wanted, and she would miss everyone soooo much this summer. That went for Sirius, too. Professor Wayland hadn't said any more about them possibly adopting their babies yet, so Emmeline wasn't really sure where her assigned cruppy would be spending his summer. So she had taken to visiting him at every possible moment that could be squeezed into her schedule. These thoughts swirled in her head as the first year skipped down to the infant creatures nursery from the castle. She let the door fall shut behind her as she entered and gathered up her usual cruppy supplies.
As she made her way over to Sirius' kennel, she called out to him: "Hiii Sirius! How're you today?" She got a small yip! from the cruppy in return. Emmeline filled up his food and water bowls and returned the big bag of cruppy food to its spot before she let Sirius out. His tail was wagging like crazy as always, and Emmeline took advantage of the fact that he got super focused on eating by brushing him while he ate. That done, she clipped his leash onto his red collar and led him into the pasture attached to the nursery. "Wanna play fetch?", she asked the cruppy as she showed him the tennis ball that she'd hidden in her pocket earlier. Sirius's eyes were fastened onto that ball and he was running for it before the ball had even left her hand! As she watched him running around, it occurred to Emmeline that it was pretty amazing how big he'd gotten from the tiiiny thing he'd been when she'd first been assigned to look after him.
The Gryffindor chased him around the pasture and played a combination of Fetch and Keep Away for at least two hours before it was almost curfew time. She made a face 'cause she didn't want to leave yet, but she hooked Sirius up to his leash and led him back inside anyway. They had to stop on the way in for Sirius to go potty, and for her to Evanesco it away. Gross! Sirius was worth the occasional grossness though, she reflected as she led him back to his kennel. "Byeee Sirius, see you tomorrow!", she told him with a biiiig smile. Emmeline gathered up his leash and any other equipment that belonged in the nursery and put it all away on her way out. She'd have to run to make it back to Gryffindor Tower before curfew, but getting to play lots with Sirius was SO worth it. The first year sent the nursery barn one last, wistful look before she faced forward and raced back to the castle. |
