Default binding rune by the creature barn
Gryffindor for life Notorious Niffler

As Emmeline listened to the headmistress's super-loud voice and looked at the big, burning red binding rune in the sky, she felt her expression falling into one of dread. This was going to be even more complicated than she'd thought when she was planting her seed. Carving three runes was ONLY the first step! The first year was super glad that she was planting her tree near to the creature barn, 'cause the familiar sounds of creatures coming from it (plus the thing humming softly in her pocket) made her feel way better about how impossible this was. "They reallllly need to make different lessons for different years at this school," she whispered to the thing in her pocket. 'Specially since she wasn't, you know, in Ravenclaw and this seemed realllly hard. She wasn't going to waste much time complaining about it though, nope!

Emmeline had just slipped her blank runes bracelet off her wrist when she heard distant -- but distinct -- screaming. Had the Dark Wizard attacked someone already? Still clutching her bracelet in one hand, the first year quickly got her wand out and ready and ran towards the sound of the voice. Apparently, Derf had also come down this path and had the same idea 'cause he went swooshing past her so fast that he'd get there wayyyy before she would. Once Emmeline had gotten near-ish to the stone circle, though, Zoryn and Derf were hugging and the headmistress was with them. So it seemed like whatever had made her Housemate scream was over now. The Gryffindor didn't think there was anything else she could do to help the situation, so she promptly turned around and trotted back down the paths to where she'd planted her seed by the barns, murmuring a quick apology to the thing in her pocket as she went.

Right, back to runes. Well, she already had her bracelet and her wand out, so she supposed she was ready to start the binding rune. Emmeline aimed her wand at a blank square on the bracelet, tried reallllly hard to focus, and cast: "Intaglio Berkana!" Annnnnd nothing happened. But that's okay, she knew better than to think she'd be able to carve the runes on her first try. Emmeline repeated the spell five whole times before FINALLY the Berkana rune was all carved in and stuff.

Next one! Aiming her wand at the sqaure that now bore Berkana, the first year focused super hard, waved her wand, and cried: "Intaglio Inguz!" As usual, she had a big fat nothing to show for it. This rune took her 7 tries to carve in and didn't look...quite like she thought it did on the headmistress' picture in the sky, but maybe it was close enough?

She was way more confident about the last rune anyways. This was the one that she could picture super more clearly in her mind, the one Zoryn and she had said earlier, so she hoped it wouldn't fail her now. She tried to think only of Jera and growth and good harvests (she couldn't remember the rest of what it did), performed the wand movement and muttered: "Intaglio Jera!" It was super more disappointing that this one didn't work on her first try after all that concentrating and stuff, but it only took 4 more tries to work! Yesss!

Okay, so the binding rune was carved in. Errr...now what? They had to chant something, right? She couldn't really remember what to chant, though. The headmistress had thrown a lot of instructions at them and her head had been hurting ever since the lesson started. "D'you remember the chant, Luna?", she whispered hopefully. Not that she really expected her pygmy puff to know the answer or even understand her, but Luna did know her name, and started purring a little. Which made the whole thing seem way better, even if she had no idea what to do now...
