Knowing Scotland, the weather was bound to change without warning (which she hoped it wouldn't). But, at the very least for the Gryffindor, the boots did serve as a bold statement of fashion.
"Hello, Miss Sorin-Ward," the headmistress replied with a curt nod of her head. She quietly watched as the fifth year looked inside the box. "Go ahead and take one." Perhaps she had missed the cue.
As soon as she was finished talking to Melbourne, Regina's blue eyes fell on the small first year. Fortunately for her, the tiny pink nose that had been poking out of her pocket was back in hiding now and had gone unnoticed by the headmistress. Whatever was in there, let's hope it stayed put.
"Welcome, Miss Sparkes," she responded after Emmeline greeted her. She watched as the little lion grabbed a random seed from the box (though not catching which one she had snagged) and went to go stand by Melbourne.
Oh, look! There was another Gryffindor making their way to Ancient Runes. She watched as the sixth year approached the Stone Circle. "Good morning, Miss Burton," the American replied after being greeted by the girl.
Her head did tilt to the side just a bit when she didn't reach for one of the seeds inside the box. She had noticed it. Perhaps seeing the seed in Emmeline's fingers would cue her to do so. If not, Regina had plans to mention the box and give more direct instructions later.
When Stasya made her appearance, at that point the woman was beginning to wonder where the students from the other Houses were. Honestly, she would have understood why it would take the Gryffindors and Ravenclaws a while to get to their meeting spot, but a handful of lions were already there. Hmm.
"Good morning, Miss Dalgaard-Volkova." The smile on the girl's face did go unnoticed, though she couldn't tell what she thought about the seeds that were inside the box. No magical creatures in there, unfortunately. No. Instead they were going to be pairing Ancient Runes with another subject today.
Breaking the chain of Gryffindors was, of course, going to be a Slytherin. But not just any Slytherin. The girl walking toward the Stone Circle was the one and the only Skylar Diggory. Needless to say, Regina was a little surprised that a certain Westwood boy wasn't beside her. He did know they were meeting on the grounds today, right? Or was he still working on wrapping up a hearty breakfast?
Allowing those thoughts to drift away, the headmistress gave the fourth year a nod of her head and said, "Hello, Miss Diggory." This time she saw that seed that was pulled from the box. Birch was an interesting choice. Did she know it was birch? She would in good time if she didn't.
The next to show up was another Slytherin. The skipping was noted. Someone was happy to be outdoors for an Ancient Runes lesson. Vivian wasn't the only one, to be totally honest. Being in the same classroom for weeks was getting on the boring side. Regina always liked switching things up. It kept everyone on their toes.
"Good morning to you, Miss Fairfield." She tried not to laugh at the girl's temporary confusion. They were just seeds. And it was a maple one that she had selected, likely at random. "Good choice," she quickly added before she went over to Skylar.
Take a picture, young Gryffindor. It was guaranteed to last longer.
Seeing Noelle arrive at the Stone Circle, the smile remained on her face. She was sure the prefect, among others, didn't trust that smile on her face. But, brace yourselves, it was genuine. The weather, definitely screaming of spring and the rain being behind them, certainly had put the headmistress in a good mood.
"Good morning, Miss Summers," she pleasantly replied. Though her eyes followed the girl as she made her way over to Ava. Was she not curious about what was inside that box? Had she even noticed it?
A quiet laugh did escape the headmistress's lips when she caught sight of Derfael bounding over to them. She even noticed that he was still wearing that pendent that she had given everyone back in December. Regina hoped that the Hufflepuff wasn't going to be too upset over the fact that they really wouldn't be needing those for the lesson once more. Maybe for their Ancient Runes final. Maybe.
"Hello, Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne. Go ahead and --" Take a seed. She eyes widened just a bit when the boy shoved a hand inside the box and retrieved it with a fistful of seeds in his grasp. Oh, Merlin.
"Would you please hand some of those seeds out to those that don't have one, Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne? You'll only be needing one seed today."
Her attention then shifted over to Shayla, who seemed to be scanning the area. The headmistress hoped she wasn't in the middle of having a daydream. As tempting as it was to get sucked into the scenery, they still had learning to do.
"Hello, Miss Morrison," Regina replied, watching as she peered inside the box and made her selection before walking over to Ava and Noelle.
Ahh, here comes Cornelius. Still surviving his fifth year and ready to tackle another Ancient Runes lesson. Unless this one happened to be the one that brought about his demise. The headmistress, as always, didn't have any plans for anyone to be dying any time soon, however.
"Good morning, Mister Baltazar," the woman responded, catching the tone in his voice. "I am doing quiet well, thank you. Making sure we all take advantage of this beautiful weather. How are you?"
And what seed did you pick? Regina was interested in that. Though it seemed like that was going to be revealed later.
Though a quiet one, Kyle did not go unobserved by the headmistress. She watched him as he approached, returning that smile of his with a nod of her head. No hellos or good mornings? That was quite alright. She knew that the boy was polite enough. No words were needed.
Regina was curious about which seed he was going to pick. Knowing that his father used to teach Herbology at the school, she assumed the Slytherin would be able to identify some of them. When the alder seed was selected, her smile grew a little. It was an interesting choice.
Eyes laid upon the Ravenclaw prefect next as she arrived at the Stone Circle. "Good morning," Regina responded, watching her as she glanced down at the box and bend over. Being a Ravenclaw, surely she was making a purposeful selection? So many before seemed to just pick whatever tickled their fancy.
Or some grabbed a handful. The number of seeds in the box was dwindling down.
"Just one please, Miss Valentine." Some of these kids were so greedy. Sheesh.
Regina couldn't help but notice that Samantha seemed ... confused. It wasn't unheard of for them to be having class outside. Though it wasn't every day that she asked them to bring dragon hide gloves with them. And, considering the homework that was submitted, Ancient Runes wasn't her strong suit. At least she was always trying? That, at the end of the day, was all that mattered to her.
"Hello, Miss Tyler," she replied before the girl went to the back of the class before the woman could even notice which of the seeds had been selected. Well, then... As per usual, the moment her watch clicked from 9:59 to 10:00, class was started without a moment of hesitation. The headmistress moves away from the stone she had been standing by and then picks up the box. She weaves her way through the crowd of students congregated at the circle of giant stones. "If you happened to not have grabbed a seed from this box, now is your chance to do so," she states, shaking the box a little so the seeds moved around the box. There was a brief paused before she added, "And if you grabbed more than one, please return the extras. It is important that everyone has one."
Once she made her way past everyone once, checking to make sure a seed was in everyone's hands, the box was returned to its original spot in the middle of the stones. If anyone arrived late or, heaven forbid, someone misplaced their seed moments after getting it, she would know.
"With it being such a lovely day, I thought it would be very fitting for us to take advantage of the weather and mesh Ancient Runes with another subject." The seeds were a dead giveaway as to which subject that would be. Regina paused to let that sink in their minds. This lesson was indeed a multi-disciplinary one, once again showing how runes could be used with just about anything.
"This morning we are going to be putting the work we've done earlier this term and our recent focus of bind runes into practice. Today, ladies and gentlemen, we will be planting trees out here on the grounds." Perhaps they remembered what she had told Miss Wright back in December about young trees being planted once the snow was gone and the ground thawed out? Probably not. That was stated months ago, after all. "Before I go into more detail about how we're going to do this, I have something to ask of you first. What is the significance of trees in Norse mythology? How are trees used in today's world, in relation to runology or in general?" OOC: Hello, everyone! Thank you so much for coming out to participate in this lesson. It's going to be one filled with a lot of growing! Hehe. If you have yet to post in this lesson and wish to do so, act like your character has been here the whole time ... unless you want your character to show up late, of course. ;)
To start off the lesson, Regina wants to know what your character knows, if anything, about trees in Norse mythology AND/OR how runologists or anyone in general use trees. Try not to repeat something that was already said, and remember that both correct and incorrect answers will be accepted. The lesson will continue in roughly 24 hours. Have fun! Runes and trees....there was a connection between them for sure, its just the question of Tenacius trying to remembering what they were, as most were told to him via trivia and idle chatter of camping "Professor, I was told that Runes have a corresponding tree type, and that Rune craftsmen makes special rune sets and staves where they match the rune to its representative wood type." |
