Her usual pair of ked trainers had been replaced by something far more adorable…well, in her opinion that is.
The boots she was wearing were comfortable and the added warmth of her loooooooooong wooly socks made it just better. Who could pass up on a pair of electric pink wellies? The hunter boots had been a gift from her dad, and she had already worn them almost every day they had a spot of rain…which was almost daily.
Bounding over toward the stone circles Mel just smiled at Professor Hawthorne. ”Hello Headmistress Hawthorne!” she beamed at the older Runes professor, her eyes flicked toward the seeds in the box…hmm…she could tell, of course that one of the seeds was indeed an accord. The green seed with its weird little top thing…another seed looked like miniature…pinecones? But they were too small to be that…heck there were even those long droopy ones that she had always seen near Finn’s house…wait…looking at one of seeds near the mini-pine-cone-thing and near an…what looked like a slightly larger small pinecone Mel just grinned. PINE!
There were pine seeds…the gryffindor’s fingers itched to reach forward and snag one to much on or even a whole slew of them to make into a roasted delicious snack thing…oh she wanted to cook now and that wasn’t conductive of class. The first student to arrive was no one other that Melbourne Sorin-Ward. The first thing the woman realized was the smile on the girl's face. The second thing she noticed was the bright pink wellies on her feet. At first the headmistress was puzzled by this, but set the thought aside. Knowing Scotland, the weather was bound to change without warning (which she hoped it wouldn't). But, at the very least for the Gryffindor, the boots did serve as a bold statement of fashion.
"Hello, Miss Sorin-Ward," the headmistress replied with a curt nod of her head. She quietly watched as the fifth year looked inside the box. "Go ahead and take one." Perhaps she had missed the cue. Text Cut: Miss Sparkes Quote:

As she slowly approached the stone circles, the first year glanced down at her top left pocket. It was slightly bulging and a tiiiny pink nose poked out of the top. Emmeline told her pocket to "shhh" a good way away from the area where the lesson was taking place.
She loved it when lessons were held outside in good weather. They were so much closer to the creature barns this way, and she could hardly wait to get past the runes and to the end of the lesson when she could go see her assigned cruppy. As she approached the box, Emmeline gave the headmistress a warm smile and greeted: "Hiii, Headmistress!" She grabbed a random seed out of the box when the headmistress indicated that she should before going over to stand by Mel, the only other student here so far. "Hiiii, Mel!", she said with another grin for her Housemate. "How're you?" The first year couldn't help feeling all happy when the weather was so nice, and she hoped that Mel was having a good morning so far too. As soon as she was finished talking to Melbourne, Regina's blue eyes fell on the small first year. Fortunately for her, the tiny pink nose that had been poking out of her pocket was back in hiding now and had gone unnoticed by the headmistress. Whatever was in there, let's hope it stayed put.
"Welcome, Miss Sparkes," she responded after Emmeline greeted her. She watched as the little lion grabbed a random seed from the box (though not catching which one she had snagged) and went to go stand by Melbourne. Text Cut: Miss Burton Quote:

The Gryffindor found Headmistress Hawthorne was standing at the stone circle. "Good morning, Headmistress." She greeted the woman. "Hey, guys." She noticed that there were two of her housemates already arrived before her. Where was Noelle? Ava knew that the Gryffindor prefect wouldn't miss this class, since she's struggling so hard on this subject in order to prepare herself for auror training kind of thing. She did notice a box with a numerous kind of seeds inside. Were they going to plant a tree? Was that a reason why the headmistress asked them to bring gloves? Hmm... Oh, look! There was another Gryffindor making their way to Ancient Runes. She watched as the sixth year approached the Stone Circle. "Good morning, Miss Burton," the American replied after being greeted by the girl.
Her head did tilt to the side just a bit when she didn't reach for one of the seeds inside the box. She had noticed it. Perhaps seeing the seed in Emmeline's fingers would cue her to do so. If not, Regina had plans to mention the box and give more direct instructions later. Text Cut: Miss Dalgaard-Volkova Quote:

Not counting her puffskein and her squirrel, even if she always counted Dobby. She was starting to think the same way about her baby puffskein too, but first, she had to get through the lesson. Then she could run down to visit the creatures. “Good morning Headmistress Hawthorne!,” she said as she arrived at the stone circle to find the headmistress waiting there with a box. She was only the tiniest bit disappointed to find only seeds inside the box as she’d peered inside it, finally selecting an interesting looking seed before she retreated to a place near Emmeline and Mel. “Hiii!,” she said brightly to her best friend and her older housemate both. “I like your boots.” PIIINK. Her favorite color. When Stasya made her appearance, at that point the woman was beginning to wonder where the students from the other Houses were. Honestly, she would have understood why it would take the Gryffindors and Ravenclaws a while to get to their meeting spot, but a handful of lions were already there. Hmm.
"Good morning, Miss Dalgaard-Volkova." The smile on the girl's face did go unnoticed, though she couldn't tell what she thought about the seeds that were inside the box. No magical creatures in there, unfortunately. No. Instead they were going to be pairing Ancient Runes with another subject today. Text Cut: Miss Diggory Quote:

Walking down to the stone circle where the Headmistress was assembled already, with ... Gryffindors, of course, because they seemed to multiply this term to unfathomable numbers, Skylar wondered what today's lesson would bring. Their lesson in the Fall with Abraxans was certainly memorable and it did make Skylar see the relation to runes a bit more. And while they had been indoors through their winter lessons, being outside again felt nice. "Hello Headmistress. Lovely day outside," Skylar said in greeting, as she selected a random seed (Birch) from the box and went to stand beside Ava. Breaking the chain of Gryffindors was, of course, going to be a Slytherin. But not just any Slytherin. The girl walking toward the Stone Circle was the one and the only Skylar Diggory. Needless to say, Regina was a little surprised that a certain Westwood boy wasn't beside her. He did know they were meeting on the grounds today, right? Or was he still working on wrapping up a hearty breakfast?
Allowing those thoughts to drift away, the headmistress gave the fourth year a nod of her head and said, "Hello, Miss Diggory." This time she saw that seed that was pulled from the box. Birch was an interesting choice. Did she know it was birch? She would in good time if she didn't. Text Cut: Miss Fairfield Quote:

She hated going up the fifth floor. It just required too much leg work. Also, today was a lovely day to be outside.
"Good morning, Headmistress," Vivian greeted the woman with a beam, and paused as she watched the box in the center. What was that for? She blinked and then approached it, still all sorts of confused. The fourth year looked up at the Headmistress for a moment and then down at the box, sticking her hand inside to get a random seed (maple). Okay, whatever this seed was. Vivian closed her hand around the seed, and then smiled at the Headmistress before going over to sit beside Sky.
"Hiiiiiii." Skylar received a beam from the blonde. The next to show up was another Slytherin. The skipping was noted. Someone was happy to be outdoors for an Ancient Runes lesson. Vivian wasn't the only one, to be totally honest. Being in the same classroom for weeks was getting on the boring side. Regina always liked switching things up. It kept everyone on their toes.
"Good morning to you, Miss Fairfield." She tried not to laugh at the girl's temporary confusion. They were just seeds. And it was a maple one that she had selected, likely at random. "Good choice," she quickly added before she went over to Skylar. Text Cut: Miss Summers Quote:

Noelle didn't know she could do that.
"Good day professor" She said with a tentative smile to the Headmistress. For some reason, Noelle was thinking that smile was leading to something. Probably nothing good. She looked around at the stones and the pathways, curious.
"Hey Mel, Sky, Emm, Vivi, Stasya and Ava." Noelle said with a hello to all the ladies before going to stand beside Ava. She gave an extra look to make sure Stasya and Emm were okay. She'd heard a rumor.
Turning back to the professor, she wondered idly what they were going to be doing today. Noelle was NOT good at Runes. it was something she desperately wanted to improve on but didn't seem to have the knack for. Take a picture, young Gryffindor. It was guaranteed to last longer.
Seeing Noelle arrive at the Stone Circle, the smile remained on her face. She was sure the prefect, among others, didn't trust that smile on her face. But, brace yourselves, it was genuine. The weather, definitely screaming of spring and the rain being behind them, certainly had put the headmistress in a good mood.
"Good morning, Miss Summers," she pleasantly replied. Though her eyes followed the girl as she made her way over to Ava. Was she not curious about what was inside that box? Had she even noticed it? Text Cut: Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne Quote:

Not that the second year would ever endorse throwing rocks at fwoopers. Or any creature really. That was just MEAN.
Bounding down to the grounds and spotting the collecting crowd, Derf waved enthusiastically at the Headmistress and was just a tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny bit crestfallen that there were no winged horses this go around. Or really ANY creatures in sight for that matter. Did that mean they weren't going to be creature whisperers again? LAME! He had even worn his pendent again today! Which, well, was nothing NEW really since he had worn it every single lesson since the one they had made them in HOPES that they would have a repeat. But alas!
"Hi Headmistress!" he chirped as he moved towards the box of...seeds? Were they meant to take these? He didn't see any signs saying DO NOT TOUCH this time so...the Hufflepuff shoved his hand in and grabbed a fist full before plopping down next to Stasya. A quiet laugh did escape the headmistress's lips when she caught sight of Derfael bounding over to them. She even noticed that he was still wearing that pendent that she had given everyone back in December. Regina hoped that the Hufflepuff wasn't going to be too upset over the fact that they really wouldn't be needing those for the lesson once more. Maybe for their Ancient Runes final. Maybe.
"Hello, Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne. Go ahead and --" Take a seed. She eyes widened just a bit when the boy shoved a hand inside the box and retrieved it with a fistful of seeds in his grasp. Oh, Merlin.
"Would you please hand some of those seeds out to those that don't have one, Mister Ashburry-Hawthorne? You'll only be needing one seed today." Text Cut: Miss Morrison Quote:

Shay walked on, making sure not to miss anything.
When she finally arrived at the designated Ancient Runes meeting area, Shay took a moment to scan the scene. "Hello Headmistress", she said before moving on. As directed, the seventh year peeked into the mystery box. Shay saw the variety of seeds inside and selected one randomly. Spotting her two favorite housemates, she headed in their direction. "Hey guys", she said to Ava and Noelle. Then she took her quill and parchment from her bag and prepared for class. Her attention then shifted over to Shayla, who seemed to be scanning the area. The headmistress hoped she wasn't in the middle of having a daydream. As tempting as it was to get sucked into the scenery, they still had learning to do.
"Hello, Miss Morrison," Regina replied, watching as she peered inside the box and made her selection before walking over to Ava and Noelle. Text Cut: Mister Baltazar Quote:

GAAAAH.
Cornelius has been more than ecstatic. You'd figure the Scottish raised boy would be used to this kind of weather, which he was, but it didn't mean he enjoyed it. Okay, okay, he did. He enjoyed a good rain shower, but not when he was working on his conditioning. He had tried to go out for a run during a rainy day, and let's just say a wet poodle would have won him.
After a very, very, early run and training session, the Slytherin got himself ready for Runes. Was it weird that every time he attended class he felt as if he was going to die? No? Just him? Okay.
Taking the scenery in as he coolly made his way over the bridge, the boy returned the Headmistress' smile with one of his own. "Good morning, Headmistress. How are you?" he asked politely. Not just because he was being polite, but because he was genuinely interested, which showed in his voice.
He noticed the box when it was gestured at, and curiously made his way towards it. It was an array of seeds. With a shrug, the Slytherin boy stuck his hand inside and plucked a random seed, not bothering to peek into his palm. He likes surprises. "How's it flowing, Viv?" Cornelius said as he joined Vivi and her friends, who all received a greeting nod.
Miss Noelle got a wink. Ahh, here comes Cornelius. Still surviving his fifth year and ready to tackle another Ancient Runes lesson. Unless this one happened to be the one that brought about his demise. The headmistress, as always, didn't have any plans for anyone to be dying any time soon, however.
"Good morning, Mister Baltazar," the woman responded, catching the tone in his voice. "I am doing quiet well, thank you. Making sure we all take advantage of this beautiful weather. How are you?"
And what seed did you pick? Regina was interested in that. Though it seemed like that was going to be revealed later. Text Cut: Mister Erikson Quote:

But for now, his vocal cords failed him. He looked in the box and saw all of the tree seeds. Some he recognized (after all, his father had been the Herbology professor before) though there were a few he didn't. He didn't see any seeds for any types of ebony trees, and that was a little disappointing. After careful thought, he chose an alder seed and then went to find a place to sit. He wondered what the seeds were for, and why they needed dragonhide gloves. Though a quiet one, Kyle did not go unobserved by the headmistress. She watched him as he approached, returning that smile of his with a nod of her head. No hellos or good mornings? That was quite alright. She knew that the boy was polite enough. No words were needed.
Regina was curious about which seed he was going to pick. Knowing that his father used to teach Herbology at the school, she assumed the Slytherin would be able to identify some of them. When the alder seed was selected, her smile grew a little. It was an interesting choice. Text Cut: Miss Valentine Quote:

She made her way across the bridge, glancing to the side to watch songbirds fly past.
The headmistress was waiting for them at the end of the bridge in the stone circle.
"Good morning Professor Headmistress," she said courteously as entered the circle and glanced curiously at the box of seeds. Bending over, she took a few at random and stepped back. Eyes laid upon the Ravenclaw prefect next as she arrived at the Stone Circle. "Good morning," Regina responded, watching her as she glanced down at the box and bend over. Being a Ravenclaw, surely she was making a purposeful selection? So many before seemed to just pick whatever tickled their fancy.
Or some grabbed a handful. The number of seeds in the box was dwindling down.
"Just one please, Miss Valentine." Some of these kids were so greedy. Sheesh. Text Cut: Miss Tyler Quote:

On the plus side, it was sunny (in Scotland, in spring!), and they were outside. Silver linings and all that.
Coming to the crossroads didn't reveal much, apart from a crowd of people and a box. "Good day, Headmistress," she greeted, before bending down to take a seed from the container. What type, she hadn't the foggiest, although she was preeeeetty sure it wasn't an oak (nope, not an acorn), or pine one. And after that, well...the back seemed to good place to sit, yup. Regina couldn't help but notice that Samantha seemed ... confused. It wasn't unheard of for them to be having class outside. Though it wasn't every day that she asked them to bring dragon hide gloves with them. And, considering the homework that was submitted, Ancient Runes wasn't her strong suit. At least she was always trying? That, at the end of the day, was all that mattered to her.
"Hello, Miss Tyler," she replied before the girl went to the back of the class before the woman could even notice which of the seeds had been selected. Well, then... As per usual, the moment her watch clicked from 9:59 to 10:00, class was started without a moment of hesitation. The headmistress moves away from the stone she had been standing by and then picks up the box. She weaves her way through the crowd of students congregated at the circle of giant stones. "If you happened to not have grabbed a seed from this box, now is your chance to do so," she states, shaking the box a little so the seeds moved around the box. There was a brief paused before she added, "And if you grabbed more than one, please return the extras. It is important that everyone has one."
Once she made her way past everyone once, checking to make sure a seed was in everyone's hands, the box was returned to its original spot in the middle of the stones. If anyone arrived late or, heaven forbid, someone misplaced their seed moments after getting it, she would know.
"With it being such a lovely day, I thought it would be very fitting for us to take advantage of the weather and mesh Ancient Runes with another subject." The seeds were a dead giveaway as to which subject that would be. Regina paused to let that sink in their minds. This lesson was indeed a multi-disciplinary one, once again showing how runes could be used with just about anything.
"This morning we are going to be putting the work we've done earlier this term and our recent focus of bind runes into practice. Today, ladies and gentlemen, we will be planting trees out here on the grounds." Perhaps they remembered what she had told Miss Wright back in December about young trees being planted once the snow was gone and the ground thawed out? Probably not. That was stated months ago, after all. "Before I go into more detail about how we're going to do this, I have something to ask of you first. What is the significance of trees in Norse mythology? How are trees used in today's world, in relation to runology or in general?" OOC: Hello, everyone! Thank you so much for coming out to participate in this lesson. It's going to be one filled with a lot of growing! Hehe. If you have yet to post in this lesson and wish to do so, act like your character has been here the whole time ... unless you want your character to show up late, of course. ;)
To start off the lesson, Regina wants to know what your character knows, if anything, about trees in Norse mythology AND/OR how runologists or anyone in general use trees. Try not to repeat something that was already said, and remember that both correct and incorrect answers will be accepted. The lesson will continue in roughly 24 hours. Have fun!
