Kyle thought about what the teacher said. Fists and feet were good, but not grand if you were at a distance. But you could always close the distance, right? He had learned a little about fighting from his father, but he wouldn't say he was particularly skilled in it. He was promised he would learn how to use weapons when he was a teenager. But it was true he had to know how to fight if he was ever disarmed.

"I think I would like some private tutoring. Both in wandless magic, and in fighting, if you're willing. My father taught me a little on how to fight, and I've sparred with my siblings, but they've got more experience than me and always beat me, still. I've got no one to practice with here at school."

That connotation? Being someone who was more into duelling and combat, he couldn't say for certain that he remembered exactly how it felt to fly. His Durmstrang days had been a long time ago. Even if you don't have your wand on you or you can't use your wand, it doesn't mean that you're defenceless. There is always a way to defend yourself. Think about Muggles: they don't have wands and can't do any kind of magic but they still manage to defend themselves, don't they?" Granted, they also had other measures of defence but that wasn't the point. "In that last situation, it's important to realise that even if you don't have your wand on you, there's always a way to defend yourself. Use your fists, your feet, your elbow are sharp and likely to cause pain to whoever you hit with it." Sure, Mr Erikson hadn't asked for this lecture on combat defence but he was getting it.
