Like the hoodie of Casper's that she had been wearing around her dorm all day. THAT had held some small comfort.

"Yeah, we can do that. Or we could just sit here a while," she said with a nod toward the thestral. She knew Sam quite liked them above most other creatures. Dora liked them also. Oddly enough, the skeletal horses made her happy. They were ugly, but beautiful at the same time. That was something everything in the world should strive to be. Balanced. Magical. Unique.

"Have you got any treats for Wasabi?" she asked with a glance back to the ground. She missed the owl, but she knew Sam needed her more. And it wasn't as if the Gryffindor never got to see her. She saw her pretty often, actually. It was just... different that she was no longer her owner.

Not bad different. Just DIFFERENT.
The attempt at a smile just caused a frown to wrinkle on Sam's forehead. Not a judgemental one, by any means; one that said there was no need. Sam understood. Faking it was not needed around her. Sure, she'd try to lift the Gryffindor's spirits, but if she couldn't, then she was still here in solidarity, right by her side.

"That works." Sam was surprised that her bestie didn't want to see Cherry straightaway, oblivious that she'd already popped in, but didn't make a thing of it. She was easy going, and had a feeling that was exactly what Dora needed on a day like today. She slowly drew her gaze away from the thestral, and pulled Dora into a hug. It'd be okay.

It'd all be okay. Sam knew a thing or two about being homeless. And also knew Dora wasn't. Sam's room would always be open to her bestie, wherever in the world it might be.

Wasabi. Sam loved that owl, and the communication she afforded. Although, she struggled to think of her as her own. She still thought of it as a long-term borrowing arrangement.

"Of course." She pulled a bag from a her robes pocket, rolling her eyes as saw a nibbled hole in the corner. "Ollie!" she groaned, awkwardly turning it in her hands so the contents didn't end up all over the barn floor. Her rat scarpered onto Dora's shoulder in response. "Well, at least he didn't eat 'em all. Greedy guts."
