It was a choice of seeing her papa or staying at Hogwarts, and she’d figured her puffskein would still get cared for while she was away. Her puffskein that she had finally named Albus, more because of jelly bean connections than anything else, and she figured it went with Dobby too. Considering she still completely intended on getting the puffskein acquainted with her squirrel at some point. Not today, though. Today she was just going to see Albus and make sure he knew she hadn’t abandoned her. Today was puffskein first, and then maybe she’d go to the barn and take Dobby for a walk. If she wasn’t too cold, but they could walk inside the barn too. She knew there wasn’t really a maybe there. She just had to make sure she didn’t miss any classes.
Walking into the nursery, she stopped by the storage area and collected some food for Albus, along with a brush and some bath things. Albus needed to stay clean after all, even if she figured he couldn’t get into too much trouble in his little cage. Once she had everything she needed, she walked over to the cage and grinned at the puffball rolling toward her. “Remember me?,” she said softly, opening the cage and letting him roll straight onto her hand. She smiled as the little pink tongue rolled out to lick her wrist, and lifted him to eye level again. “You’re bigger, Albus.” Not too much bigger. The puffskein still fit in the palm of her hand, but she could feel that he’d gained weight. Which wasn’t a bad thing, even if she liked him staying small.
Either way, she set out the food near the cage and let him eat while she cleaned out the cage and fluffed up his little blanket nest in the corner. That was totally like her squirrel. Dobby liked nesting too, so it was familiar. She’d giggled at the feeling of something bumping up against her foot, before looking down to see Albus starting to roll in her direction again. “Okay. You can come up again,” she said, leaning over and picking him up. “Your home’s all nice and clean now,” she informed him, trying to figure out if it’d be easier to use a little bowl for his bath or not. Ultimately, she decided it would be, and she set him in the cage and closed the door before she ran to get one.
Filling it about halfway full of water, she used the heating charm she learned in Charms class to make sure it wasn’t too cold before she picked him up again and set him inside. Another little giggle slipped out as she watched him stick his tongue out again to lick the water, but she quickly wet his fluff and used a tiny bit of shampoo to make sure he was squeaky clean. Picking him up again and moving the bowl out of the way, she dried him off before sitting down and letting him crawl into her lap. “Time for a brush,” she said softly, carefully brushing the fluff until he looked like his usual puffball self and then letting him sit on her shoulder for a while. Giggling yet again when she felt his tongue go in her ear again. “You can’t always do that, y’know,” she informed him, standing up to put him back in the cage, nestling him in the blankets so she could head back up to the castle by way of the barn. Eventually she wanted to train him not to, but as long as he wasn’t doing it to strangers it was okay for now.
