Derf and Prof Gryffindor for life Notorious Niffler
The first year had actually managed to catch Derf's note when he threw it at her! Usually, she didn't catch things because she wasn't really paying attention and the flying things took her by total surprise. But she'd had an eye on Derf ever since she sent the note over, so she was ready. Emmeline grinned when the professor said she had a good answer, but quickly frowned when Derf got in trouble for returning her note. Oops. She shot the Hufflepuff an apologetic look, but she was super glad that the professor hadn't tried to read it out loud. Especially after she read what Derf had written and realized: Professor Marchand is a werewolf!!!![
This revelation made SO much sense. It totally explained why her Head of House was super sad all the time, and tired sometimes -- every month, maybe?! She remembered her conversation with the Charms professor from before the Christmas break and she felt so horrible for him. The poor man had to deal with family problems AND being a werewolf! But..she had just the thing to cheer him up!!
Emmeline pulled a new red piece of paper towards her and wrote a plain old message: Dear Professor Marchand, You are super awesome! I hope you like this on the next full moon. I don't want to hurt your feelings but the crups REALLY like these, so they must be so yummy! She waved her wand in the correct direction and cast: "Plico!" to fold the paper in half. Grinning, the first year dove for her bag and dug around inside it for the perfect Valentine's Day present for a werewolf. She had bought a brand new box of dog treats by owl order and it had just come in at breakfast! So it was still in its brown parcel wrappings and everything!
She definitely didn't want to expose the professor's secret with her gift. Sirius and the other cruppies LOVED these things, and she was super sure that Professor Marchand as a wolf would be really, really happy to have them!
Emmeline was half-listening to Professor Marchand's lecture on all the new spells. She'd ask Stasya and Miss Olivia for help in a minute, since they were sitting by her. Maybe Jessa too. For now, though, she waited until Professor Marchand had finished speaking and everyone was busy working on their spells. She didn't want anyone to notice, but they totally wouldn't because she was little and sneaky!
The Gryffindor grabbed up her gift of dog biscuits and her note for Professor Marchand and marched quietly and SUPER sneakily up to his desk. She plopped the gift down on the professor's desk and scurried back to her seat with her heart pounding like mad. She didn't regret giving the professor something to hopefully improve his next full moon experience, but she hoped he wouldn't be too mad at her (and Derf, if he figured out what that note meant) for knowing his secret.
After she sat down, she tried to catch Derf's eye and give him a BIG grin. This was the best Charms lesson ever!
Now, uhh, what were they supposed to be doing again? |
