Maybe not exactly the two peas in a pod sort of thing like he and Abey - although things had been WEIRD there since the cruise party - but still super good friends!

"OKAY! I'll s-start on the potion," he nodded. Because the first two steps were something he could handle. Probably. He still wasn't so good with Cleaning Charms though and he had seen LOADS of that during the second task...so it only seemed right that he do one now....only the incantation was kinda hard for him to say. Um...he was just going to turn the cauldron upside down first and hit the bottom of it to get any dust and stuff out...yeeeeeeeees...

Turning the cauldron right side up again, Derf cleared his throat and as CLEARLY as possible attempted to conjure water. "AguAMenTI!" He produced water alright...a bit TOO much and the blast sent water in every which direction - mostly back at himself and drenching his robes as though he had just taken a dip in the lake again. But HEY! At least he had got water into the cauldron, right?!

Grinning to himself despite resembling a wet crup, he BEAMED at Zoryn when she returned with all their ingredients. "TADA! Water." OH WAIT! Pointing his wand at the burner. "INCENDIO!" Oh...that was...a lot of FIRE. UM UM UM! Turning the heat down a little, Derf glanced over his shoulder a bit sheepishly at Zoryn. "...and fire."

TADA?

Zoryn was WAY proud of Derf for getting the potion started. Except why was their workstation all wet? Huh. She didn't think about it too hard though 'cause Derf was doing the fire now!!! She BEAMED at him, not even slightly worried that the flames were too big. But Derf seemed to think so 'cause he began adjusting their size. Oh. Maybe that was a good idea. WOW. He really was an expert at this.

"Your wet," she offered, trying to be helpful. Did he know?

"Okaaaaay, so now we... Uuuuuuuuh," she returned her focus back to the textbook, running her finger down the page to help guide her eyes as they waited for the water to reach a slow boil. "Chop and add the sage? I can do that!!!" Um. Chopping. Right. The cutting spell!!! That was a thing, right? "Deef-IN-doe," she tried, aiming her wand at the sage and only slightly creating a dent in it. "Diffindo!" she tried again, still not severing it as she had hoped. Man. She hoped that Derf didn't notice all her struggling.

Zoryn looked around the classroom to see where other people were at with their potions, which was totally a mistake. 'Cause it was then that she decided they'd fall behind if they couldn't move on faster. So instead of struggling more with the charm, she decided to manually chop up the sage with her hands. It was more tearing it apart than it was chopping, buuuuuut like it wouldn't be a big deal, right?

THERE!

?

"And sage," she nodded pridefully, throwing the handful into their boiling water.
