"Nah. I got it," he grinned back at her over his shoulder. He had a line too. A GOOD one. "Instead you can..." he continued, draaaaaaagging out the suspense and reaching into his bag all nice and slow-like and eventually pulling our a bouquet of flowers he had picked willy nilly about the grounds and castle. So the lengths of the stems were all over the place and is sort of looked more like a bouquet of weeds. "...take these and go find us a table."
See? Super smooth line! How cool was he?
Emmeline blinked as she watched him draw out the last sentence and pull a bunch of weeds out of his bag. He'd done the whole thing with so much drama that she'd briefly wondered what exactly he'd be pulling out like that; it was hard to know with James. Could've been anything, really. But then, Emmeline liked surprises as long as nobody got maimed or died.
This surprise was definitely a good one. Unfortunately, it took Emmeline a few awkward seconds of staring at the variety of weeds in his hand to figure out that he'd obviously meant them to be flowers. The only problem was, she wasn't sure he knew what flowers even were. Still, he'd tried to do something nice and she appreciated the effort, so she tried reallllly hard not to laugh in front of him. She managed to keep her amusement contained to a smile, somehow, and honestly doubted that James would notice any difference between her normal smiles and "oh Merlin I really want to laugh now" smiles. Boys didn't notice anything, or at least this one didn't usually. She plucked the stems from his grasp carefully, trying hard not to spill weeds all over the floor. This was somewhat difficult because the stems were super different lengths and some of them were so short, but... "Thanks, James! I have something for you too." She wasn't going to get it out with a fist full of weeds, though. Emmeline shot James another shy smile and bounced off to a table for two near one of the windows. |
