He offered the other boy a one shoulder shrug and laughed, perhaps a little too loudly for the confines of the library. "I'm told I can be charming, or whatever. Something like that." Surely there was charm to be found in honesty, however brutal it might be.
And if Jesús Rodriguez could offer him the honesty Levi preferred, the least he could do was return it in kind. He looked up from the book, openly studying the American boy. "Yes." There was not a drop of shame in his tone. "There were sixteen of us before the first challenge, you see," He continued, allowing a small smile to curl. "I was not about to waste my days studying the other fifteen--not when I knew four of us would be cut out immediately." It was unfortunate that three out of four had been Hogwarts students but that was a story for another day. "Surely you understand." Jesús watched Levi carefully; he was insanely curious about the other boy, and didn't actually know how or where to start dissecting. He studied the slight change in his expression, and chalked it up his own blunt way of speaking. At Levi's response, Jesús offered him a toothy grin. "I can see that," he remarked casually, leaning back into his chair. "It's almost always the attractive ones that are constantly told that." Again, he regarded the sixth year carefully, but in reality he felt that Levi was the most interesting person he'd encountered in Hogwarts so far.
Books forgotten, for the time being anyway, Jesús decided that he would focus his attention solely on the boy across from him. Because it was very interesting that Levi felt the need to track him down. He supposed Valerie would also find this exchange funny, and then wondered if Levi had sought her out as well. "What do you hope to gain from having a conversation with me?" A genuine inquiry. He didn't think Levi had any sort of malicious intent (and if he did, the conversation would've ended as soon as Levi greeted him,) but he didn't think that the other competitor was here for idle chat. So, what was his angle? "Who else do you have your eye on?"
