They wanted shinies!
The first year had just been about to follow Miss Ava's directions to go back when she felt a creature climbing up her! She felt four little paws with tiny claws on her legs anyway, and looked down in momentary confusion.
IT WAS A NIFFLER! Nifflers were her absolute favorite creatures EVER! She never passed up a chance to play with the ones in the barn. This forest was the best!
When the niffler had climbed high enough, she picked him up (if he'd let her) and tried to cuddle him against her shoulder. "Hiii, cutie!" She made a sort of perch out of one arm so that the niffler could cuddle against her chest/shoulder if he wanted, and reached out slowly to pet him with her other hand. She wouldn't do that if he got scared, though.
Of course he wanted shiny things, and fortunately for Emmeline, the only shiny thing she was wearing was the tiiiiny bit of silver that held her winter cloak attached. She doubted he'd be able to get it undone, though, because Nanny had placed lots of strengthening charms on it before she'd left for school in September because Nanny knew how much the eleven-year-old liked to play with creatures of all sorts.
She may have seen some green sparks out of the corner of her eye, but the Gryffindor's sole attention was for the niffler. Could he stay with her forever please? To do that, though..
The first year pulled a small, plain brown sack out of her pocket with the hand she'd been petting him with. Manuevering her hands carefully so as not to dislodge him, she pulled out an extra shiny knut from the sack. She had a bunch of random shiny things in there for her trips to the barn, and the knut had been polished to a glimmering shine. He wouldn't have to search too hard for it, because she pretty much just handed it over to him. "Here, buddy, d'you want a shiny?', she cooed at him. This was the best lesson ever!! |
