He cared a lot for the boy.
So, he wanted to know which ones to take.....after he had moved on. "What do you plan on doing? What will you be studying predominantly?" He would love to say Herbology just right off the bat. But he couldn't rightfully say the subject if it might benefit Rooney more to take something else. "...Would you like tea?" Had he offered yet? He couldn't even remember. Merlin. Rooney found himself sighing at how he had taken the words previously from his Professor and immediately feeling bad for it. Not bad enough to warrant an apology, but people understood that Rooney rarely apologised for what he said or thought about what people had said to him. Feelings and thoughts did not require apologies if they were still your belief, yes? That was how he felt about it, which Roo knew was against a lot of other people. It was him as a person, no matter the lack of understanding from others. He wasn't a bad person. He was just his own person. "No lines crossed, Sir.." His voice was quiet and he still hadn't been able to make eye contact, so he continued to look at his lap.
Until the conversation returned to his education and he felt able to look at Paul once more. "I just want to continue my studies in something, Sir. I could study musical theatre, but I doubt that there is much more for me to learn when it's been in my life since I was three. I could study History of Magic, but it's something that is everchanging and I doubt I have the wordly experience to form my own independent opinions about things that happened. And I love both Charms and Herbology, but...I want to study one." So that his time at university wasn't split between two subjects. That was the thing he hated about university.. that people were able to study more than one thing at the same time. It didn't warrant a degree to him. "Oh. Yes. Sure.."
